Ocarina of Time fan PC port to release April 1

HARKSHIPBIGRENDER1.jpg

After being announced last February, a new fan PC port of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is expected to release April 1, 2022. Codenamed "Ship of Harkinian," named after a line of dialogue in the CD-i Zelda games, the port will use the reverse-engineered source code released by the Zelda Reverse Engineering Team last November. Yesterday, the group working on the port, Harbour Masters, announced a "Ship of Harkinian Direct" to premiere on March 22, which will feature "roughly 5 minutes of information focused on features available in the next 10 days for the Ship of Harkinian, and a sneak peak at features that will be available in the coming months after launch." While this announcement doesn't specifically say it will release on April 1, ten days after March 22 is, of course, April 1, and the FAQ on the Ship of Harkinian Discord server lists the release date as March 32.

For some idea on where progress is on the port, the Discord server has plenty of small development updates. Developer Lywx has mentioned that while the initial release will not support 60fps gameplay, it is being worked on and should come at a later date. When asked about custom textures, Lywx responded "If i manage to make it fully working, yes. Its not that hard, but its missing some things." It is also worth pointing out that, according to developer MelonSpeedruns, this project will not be compatible with previously-released texture packs, and that they will need to be ported to this system. However, Lywx has posted pictures showing working custom textures, including 4K textures, but it's unclear if they will be fully supported in the initial release.

If you'd like to dig deeper into the project, you can join the Ship of Harkinian Discord server. Or, you can wait until March 22 to see all the news in their Direct.

Same. Has there been any discussion about it? I was hoping it would be something akin to that Super Mario 64 switch port.
Most are probably waiting to see what goes for the PC port, especially if they are doing it as properly as the comments from the devs have indicated, and then going sideways.

From what I saw of the code and comparing to what was done for the Mario 64 ports (which actually was easier than I had expected) then Zelda is a far harder effort, with more leaning into the N64 side of things (Mario being almost "oh wow swap this control, audio direction and video render path out with not actually that many lines of code and we are good") and code not being as amenable to it (both mario and zelda and the PC version of the former are up there if you want to compare -- you don't necessarily have to know much about coding to be able to see what was changed and the differences in code style/comments/function names.). Any current Switch porting efforts would essentially have to be replicating what this PC port is going for, on top making it work on the Switch. If someone else is going to make a generic version of the code and spare you the hassle then why not wait for that?

As a request, can someone mod this awesome port, to have Hyrule Warriors style with Empire building or maybe a something else like real-time strategy.

How is this native, being rendered through GlideN64?
This project, "Ship of Harkinian", uses a custom "Fast3D" renderer, like the Super Mario 64 port.
No code or repository of this project is public yet.

There is an other project called "Open Ocarina", which uses GlideN64 for rendering.

These are two completly different projects.

The later one is already public:

https://github.com/blawar/ooot

And they support more game roms than the master quest debug version.

that's the one I've been compiling. right now, only the pal full rom or debug one works, but there are spaces for JP and USA iirc. it's a work in progress. I don't know if this main one will require assets from the rom, though I assume it will.

I also want to point out that the blawar one requires the master quest rom at this time. the first slot is a stage select, like I've shown in a couple of pics, but slots 2 and 3 should be the full game afaik. I haven't tested them as of yet. it recently got sound, but there are some issues with it.

On the same day Nintendo will announce that they plan to personally support them in all their efforts, and not act all authoritarian about this in any way what so ever.

I dont see the point really, if you wanted to play ocarina of time on pc there are plenty of emulators to do so.

Unless it offered something new like the mario64 port used improved mario models.

If only they could reverse the 3ds into the pc port, surely if it was possible to import kokiri woods 3ds into the n64 rom.....

But then again, you could just emulate the 3ds version of the game.

I think that's kind of the point. 60fps, high res models/textures, proper widescreen support, etc.

It's funny because you said you didn't see the point but you actually do. Just say you don't find any use for you, but it's still a very big deal.

Hopefully some simple things to modernize the game can be done, I'm sure they can: native widescreen, full camera control, possibly including Master Quest as an alternate mode in the same game like it is in the 3DS version. I also wonder if we'll start to see interesting mods like Render 96 and more of the interesting other things modders have done with the reverse engineered release of Mario 64.

In the disc, they're talking about a debug rom. Not the master quest variant, either. With the hopes of supporting other versions sooner rather than later.

I'm curious to see how this all plays out. If it's real, I'd love to run through OoT at 60fps in ultrawide. :o

Hope it's the superior uncensored version

weird that Nintondo still hasn't went after those devs and brought them to court.

You WANT them to?

I'm more eagerly awaiting the GoldenEye decompilation. My dream of playing the game at a solid 60fps in 1080p on a Raspberry Pi 4 will eventually become a reality.

Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
