Obsidian's upcoming RPG Avowed has just been delayed to next year

capsule_616x353.jpg

Obsidian, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, Pillars of Eternity, and other beloved RPGs, will not be releasing their next game as soon as we all expected. Avowed, their latest project, was due out this fall, but has been delayed, pushing the game's launch to next year. The reasoning behind the delay is, in Xbox's own words, "to give players' backlogs some breathing room", with a number of Xbox-owned studio releases coming out between now and 2025. According to internal reports, Microsoft does not want Avowed, a first-person RPG to compete with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, also a first-person game, which will have a day one Game Pass launch, and console exclusivity on Xbox systems. Avowed will now instead launch on February 18, 2025.

Seriously, just say it needs more time in the oven. Making a compelling open-world RPG takes a lot of time and effort.

The Age of Mythology remaster is now the only game on that list releasing before Avowed that I have any slight amount of interest in. Guess it's appropriate that they said, "so many games," and not, "so many great games" coming.
While more time in the oven helps most games, it's pretty common for companies to delay releases so they're not competing with themselves.
It's just usually the reasoning happens internally instead of being stated out loud.

Doesn't change the fact rushed games are shit most of the time.
In the current era, both end up being shit in the end most of the time. My point is that the quote really doesn’t mean anything these days. He said it before gaming companies went insane

I didn't really know about this game, so I did a quick google check, found this:

https://www.pcgamer.com/avowed-release-date-gameplay-trailer-pillars-of-eternity/

Yeah, it sounds like a AA game, and they are scaling things back compared to the other AAA games out there. Historically, Obsidian has focused on story & world setting, with good gameplay. Sadly, there is probably nobody left from the old days...this is a definite "sit back and wait & see" what the finished product is.

Which is weird, because I absolutely love first person games.

Edit: For those who want to know what was in the deleted messages below, xzi showed how deranged he is by continuing to throw the "but has wamen blek hence all games' dei" when showed dei is not this, he called the mods xP.
I asked you to elaborate on what your actual criticism of the game is, instead of hiding behind coded language. So feel free to do that. Whatever your made-up definition of DEI is, it's clearly not the standardized one.

And no, I didn't report anything in this thread. I'm skeptical of how the game might turn out as well, but traditionally I do prefer Obsidian's releases to Bethesda's, post Morrowind anyway.

Very few games get the luxury of being released as shit and getting fixed over time. Most games that release as guano stay as guano.

I'm glad I can always rely on GBATemp comments on unreleased games to be unduly hostile...
Guaranteed entertainment in any thread to be honest. No matter the topic, there is always someone starting some beef (or being contrarian for the sake of it). 10/10

And like i explained in the deleted messages, i don't need to elaborate when i denounce a game is DEI/BRIGDE, that alone tells everything about how the game will come up and how the company behaves, because you don't know what that means, even others pointed that, and it's fine you're not omniscient.

I take the 'give gamers' backlogs breathing room' reasoning to be more like 'this is not going to have a chance against the better stuff going on right now' so they're aiming for a more barren point in the overall schedule.

It feels like they just don't want to say that they need more time to finish the game. I'm fine with them needing more time (I'd rather they delay than release something unfinished), but it does seem like they're skirting the truth here. At least I appreciate them not wanting to compete with Stalker 2. That team has been through hell and they deserve their time in the spotlight.
