Obsidian, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, Pillars of Eternity, and other beloved RPGs, will not be releasing their next game as soon as we all expected. Avowed, their latest project, was due out this fall, but has been delayed, pushing the game's launch to next year. The reasoning behind the delay is, in Xbox's own words, "to give players' backlogs some breathing room", with a number of Xbox-owned studio releases coming out between now and 2025. According to internal reports, Microsoft does not want Avowed, a first-person RPG to compete with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, also a first-person game, which will have a day one Game Pass launch, and console exclusivity on Xbox systems. Avowed will now instead launch on February 18, 2025.

So many games coming! As such, we're moving Avowed to Feb 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.

Seriously, just say it needs more time in the oven. Making a compelling open-world RPG takes a lot of time and effort.

The Age of Mythology remaster is now the only game on that list releasing before Avowed that I have any slight amount of interest in. Guess it's appropriate that they said, "so many games," and not, "so many great games" coming.

To be fair, Outer Worlds was only AA in scope and funding. If Avowed flops though, they won't have that same excuse to fall back on.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, as it applies to hiring and staffing practices. I can promise you that Bethesda's development team when creating Skyrim was not exclusively comprised of straight white men. Morons also commonly use the acronym like a slur to disparage any game that includes diverse characters, regardless of who the development team is.

What does wasting Rocksteady's talents on live service slop have to do with DEI? Those are executive-level decisions. WB games (and Warner in general) has been circling the drain since 2022 when it was bought out by Discovery and CEO David Zaslav.

You don't need to use buzzwords for the benefit of a lowest common denominator audience in order to discuss the quality of games or developers. Avowed will probably turn out better than Starfield at least, not that that's a high bar to clear.

Same, outer worlds also fell flat for me. It wasn't a bad game (better than starfield at least) for me but I felt it was too mediocre relative to what I was expecting from a studio like Obsidian and given it's price (it was priced just like any other AAA at that time).

When I heard that they were going to make an outer worlds 2, my first reaction was . The inevitable $70 price jump isn't gonna help either.
