Hardware O3DS Shell replacement

Hey guys,

I'm on the look out for a replacement shell/ entire system housing for the O3DS. I have found some replacements on Amazon and Ebay, but they all look a little off. has anyone here had any experience with them? The O3DS I have from a friend, it didn't even turn on, then it was blue screening. I have managed to fix it but the system has some nasty chips and starches on it.

I have been repairing older Nintendo systems as a hobby for years. I think I'm on my 60th DMG. these guys are not that much harder, just a lot more delicate.

Anyway any feedback would be great.

The third-party housing is fine for the most part, but they're not made from exactly the same type of plastic as the original housing. Also, the ones labelled "aqua blue", "flame red" or "cosmo black" are different in color and the glossiness of the plastic. Usually you can't tell in the photos the sellers use on Amazon and eBay, but it's very obvious in reality. So if you mix and match OEM parts and third-party parts you'll end up with a strange Frankenstein type of console. The plastic is also a bit more brittle than the OEM housing, but that only really matters if you drop the thing.



The system on on the left has third-party housing. The right is OEM. Personally I do think the third-party housing looks pretty good, but it's very obvious in person that it's not original. If you care about the console looking original then the best idea is to buy used OEM housing on eBay that's still in good condition. But otherwise the third-party stuff is fine.

Thanks for the info... i guess its searching Ebay for OEM ones. Its a shame its hard to find the Japanese exclusive colors.

Be careful! If you know someone with experience, have them do it. I accidentally ripped a ribbon cable in my O3DS while putting it back together. It was the part where the cable was fed through a tube between the screen and the mobo. Although, fucking up convinced me to upgrade to an N3DS anyway.

the high quality replacement shells haven't quite seen the market yet.
another idea is you could always look for a bricked one and use the shell on yours... but then you may not have a brand new-looking system (maybe better condition than now though)
