Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft, also known as Notch, soft-announced a Minecraft spiritual successor over X. He had initially announced plans for such a game in 2011 called 0x10C. The game was to be space themed and take place in the far off future. Development stalled and then three years later Microsoft purchased Mojang in 2014, where Notch seemed to cease development altogether.

It remains unclear exactly what kind of spiritual successor he intends to create, but images posted to X with pixelated planets have led some to believe the game may be a continuation of his earlier project.

Indeed! I saw Minecraft 2 news around on Facebook when I scroll down and catch it. Notch explain about it same above.

I can't wait for Minecraft 2 what look like real life compare to modern today.


About Minecraft game. I feel this game is not finish. I did wrote on Minecraft forum about glass door, glass slab (half block), glass stair something like that need to complete for Minecraft game. But developers are ignore my messages on forum long time ago. Torch can give light through glass door, glass slab (half block), glass stair, etc would be epic for to build small city deep in water lake or ocean & lava lake or lava ocean and build up where empty are air area far away in sky like space to see through all way. That's would be stunning.

I think about Minecraft 2 will have many effect like that:

Real time weather like rainy, snowy, hail, thunderstorm, tornado, hurricane, windy

Earthquakes

Volcanoes

Tide affect both water and lava (lake and ocean) to change few blocks up and down many times.

Asteroid and Meteor - watch out for small rocks and huge rock to crash into world surface to blow up. Run to underground vault room for safe to protect your live if you saw huge rock move slower in sky toward ground! Asteroid (huge rock) is more powerful than nuclear to wipe any cities and building out to reshape most surface on world like lands and oceans.




Other:

Random different of alliances and enemies maybe invite you to join then you become leader to control their armies / troops to war against other alliances / enemies and also wipe out any many of monsters and bosses out of field area.

Planet to another planets, etc - If we built powerful space station can travel anywhere in space to harvest a lot of resources, supplies and more. I not sure about this.

We can build any basic to very advance of vehicles like car, truck, van, plane, boat, ship, train, cargo, rocket, space station and many more.

Grid stations, Power stations, Solar panels, Hydrogen plants and Nuclear plants to produce electric power to cities, factories, people houses, stores, hospital, school and many more.

Maybe UFO appear in sky (both day and night) to check on you, pick up you to drop off to random place and maybe random kill you.

Can make weapons like guns, rocket, missiles, nuclear warhead, etc (basic to very advance to more powerful).

This reminds me of an older iOS game called Lunacraft (or Mooncraft for those that were around when it was called that at one point). As the title implies, the game took place in space on the moon. I used to have it in my purchase history... Until it was pulled for whatever reason, so I can't even redownload it anymore. But yes, Minecraft but in space is not a new concept, I doubt Lunacraft was even the first anyways.

EverQuest 1 and 2 still both receive updates to this day

As long as he adds enough new content and makes some lateral moves it will be interesting

OG Minecraft got stale a long time ago so maybe that's something that can be overcome with a new project

Minecraft isn't going to update to a point where it takes place in space, let alone takes place in the future. So being updated still won't impact the existence of Notch's project. Besides, it's a spiritual successor, which isn't the same as being a direct sequel. A spiritual successor to Minecraft basically means a game that's functionally like Minecraft in some ways, but takes on its own identity.
