So I've been pretty busy in the PS Vita subforum, as I've got 4 Vitas that have been hacked to smithereens. While I do own a Wii (black), I really wanted something different to hack my teeth into.

I did quite a bit of homework looking at various Wii's on eBay, and I ran across this one last night and plunked down for this RED one this morning.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/4052119297...86&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=EMAIL

It's in terrific shape, comes with everything it possibly could, and I've finally found a red Wii that still has both of it's doors (covering the Gamecube jacks) in tact. Take a look on eBay and look up a RED Wii, and almost ALL of them have the doors broken or missing entirely.

I just got a 128GB SanDisk card to go with hacking. I can't wait to play Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes.

So folks, I'll be modding this with ModMii, does anybody here have any recommendations or advice about hacking this thing? Or maybe something to omit or avoid? If anything occurs to you I'd definitely be grateful. I look forward to being part of the Wii community in this forum.

Thank you!

I have that same Red Wii. It came bundled with New Super Mario Bros.

Anyway...

Do not underestimate the space you'll end up needing. I'd suggest you to go triple that.
"But I just want the "essentials"" yes, I said the same and I thought 64GB SD would suffice, but soon I changed that to a 120GB, then more games grabbed my attention, soon I changed that to a 320GB HDD... it's already filled alongside the 64SD and I'm needing more space. I'm considering using a 500+GB HDD. Trust me, you'll think it's enough, and that you'll need the essentials, but the Wii homebrew sceene is getting better and better and soon you'll realize you'll need more space than you thought.

Never used MODMII before and probably never will.
But still I would like to encourage you to make a NAND backup and use proper safety measures (install BootMii and PriiLoader) as the first thing you must do with your console.

I hacked my Wii in 2009 when the "Gameless SD method" was developed and if I'm not mistaken it used the Internet Channel. Really can't remember.
All I'm trying to say is that my Wii got hacked/updated as things were evolving, so my Wii has Waninkoko's and Hermes' cIOS alongside other cIOS jobs that handled different errors with Channels and Games. In 2016 or so I did my last cIOS update with d2X-cIOS and I'm not sure what's the standard nowadays. Not even sure if Waninkoko's and Hermes' are still needed, not sure if the cIOS that fixed error 002 is still needed, not sure if the cIOS that enabled SD Channel is still needed, not sure if the cIOS that made some Virtual Console games work are still needed, and I'm not even sure if there's a new version of The Homebrew Channel.

In my experience, everything's been working properly since 2010 and I haven't made anything beyond d2X and a cIOS that makes RiiVolution work. If it ain't broken don't try to fix it.
As a matter of fact I've never done a NAND Backup and never needed to restore my Wii... take it from someone who's been abusing the poor thing since 2008.

CFG USB LOADER is best USB/SD Loader hands down. Wonder why the Wii Forum isn't filled with: "HALP BLACK SCREEN IN CFG USB LOADER" threads.

The rest, that is Emulation falls in preferences.
I prefer RetroArch over standalone Emus. Not64 over Wii64 Rice/Glide, WiiStation for PS1, and couple Homebrew ports of old games.

The rest is up to you, nowadays you have many options such as emuNANDs and WiiFlow. Personally, I'm too lazy to bother installing that because I'm old fashioned and I don't care to make things look pretty as long as they work.

Especially if you're planning to use themes or sneek you should check out the bottom of the first post in the stickied modmii thread for some known bug fixes and workarounds

I will definitely look into that!!!

ModMii is the way to go, I used it recently to update my hacks, and hack another wii. just make sure that if you are using letterbomb your wii date is right.

Gosh, it seems like there are a lot of things other than just the hack. Some of the stuff you cats have stated in this forum is stuff I've never even heard of, but then again I didn't decide to hack a Wii until like two weeks ago...

Thanks for the heads-up Juan, and good to see you in the Nintendo Wii forum! And yes, that SanDisk will not last long, but If I just play a game and then swap it out for another one, I shouldn't have too much trouble. And you're right about that, a larger card is definitely better. I have 4 hacked Vitas, and one of them has a 1TB card in it - never have to worry about space on that thing!!!

Guys, I has teh queshkin...

So I alread got Twin Snakes on my PC. And just like retail game itself, it has two ISO's. Do I need to turn these two ISO's into ONE SINGLE ISO, or do I just load both ISO's into the memory card (I'll let you cats know when I get the Wii, supposed to be hear between Wednesday and Saturday). If I need to turn it into one single file, what program(s) would I need to have to get the job done?

I'd really like a response on this as hacking this console is definitely different than hacking a PS Vita...

WBFS Manager can convert ISO files into usable WBFS files.
DO NOT FORMAT DRIVES/MEMORIES INTO WBFS
Just use Game.wbfs

Download WBFS Manager, select Add files, choose both ISO files and it'll merge both into one single WBFS or will split both into two if the game exceeds 4GB of space.

ModMii would be pretty shit if it didn't have ppl do this at the earliest opportunity, so don't worry.

Also all the other stuff u said is handled by modmii. Hermes cios for example is no longer needed, but if u want it, modmii has an option to enable it

Wait, no! Twin Snakes is a GameCube game! Don't do that! The game genuinely does come on two discs.
A good thing for beginners to do is to consult this guide. ModMii can walk you through things no problem, but it never hurts to have a backup for things it doesn't handle.

There's also a mod for classic music if you're so inclined.

128GB will get you quite far if you trim your GCN ISOs using Nkit (Don't compress them though!) but if you want all the things, you'll need bigger.

Oh shit! That's right, forgot about it being GCN game.
@The_Dizzy_Vizzy yeah, for GCN games you don't do anything special other than naming Disc1 and Disc2 = game.iso and disc2.iso respectively.

PS: Was playing Barbies with my niece at the time of replying, wasn't paying attention to neither :ha: (sorry)
