DUMB QUESTION:

never got it... what in fact is a stub? english is not my native language, maybe thats why i dont get it.
I should have explained that. A stub IOS is a "dummy" IOS. It's basically a placeholder. It won't work if you try to run something with it. Nintendo installs stubs for two reasons.
1) To block cIOS installs.
2) When nothing up to date uses that IOS slot. For example, System Menu 4.2 uses IOS70, and 4.3 uses IOS80. When you update to 4.3, IOS70 (along with several other IOS's) is stubbed since only 4.2 used it.

It's best not to mess with IOS's below 200 unless you are following a guide. IOS58 has no stubbed version, so the latest version can be installed.

Gonna softmod a Wii tomorrow without access to an SD card reader so I'm putting it all ready now.

Is it safe to copy over my existing hacks.ini and bootmii folder over or will all the settings be overwritten when bootmii is installed?

Hello,
I'm about to mod my wii, and just one last question before I do.
I was going to use mauifrog's softmod any wii guide, with the main benefit (that I perceived) being that I'd be downgraded from 4.3 to "System Menu 4.1 v544## is installed, preventing N updates, restoring region free and bannerbomb rev65281 are maxed to prevent Nintendo from stubbing them (from the guide)".
But then I was taking a bit of a look through Modmii, and saw that if I downgrade to 4.1 through that then "Version numbers have been increased to survive official updates." (from Modmii).

Is it the same thing? What other extra brick protection is given by using the softmod any wii guide?

P.S. I'd appreciate region free loading, which is why I'd like to return to 4.1

The version numbers of the System Menu IOS are increased with ModMii. With mauifrog's guide, the both the IOS and the System Menu have the version number increased. Mauifrog's is more beneficial because the System Menu won't be updated if you accidentally disable the "Block Disc Updates" or "Block Online Updates" hacks from in Priiloader. However, your IOS's will be updated, so it's also beneficial if you need to update an IOS for a game, but you can't install them manually for some reason.

Keep in mind that ModMii is easier to follow than Softmod ANY Wii when picking your guide.

Folks, not been able to use the Wii for ages (Again!), but I finally got some time to update it.

Could someone please take a peek at my post here and see what needs updating or has changed?

I have just updated ISO249 to cIOSX d2x v6 (Using Base 56), once the TV is free again I will run another sysCheck, but does anything else seem out of date?

I'm guessing you updated your Wii to 4.2 or 4.3. That wasn't a good idea. You need to resoftmod your Wii, since you will no longer have Priiloader or some of your cIOS's. Use ModMii.

Fuuuuu i knew it i told my room mates to not update the wii
Lol, well once you have properly softmodded it with ModMii (no, if it wasn't properly softmodded before since this happened), you won't be prompted to update the System Menu. You may have to manually update the Shopping Channel if it is out of date, but you can get that from the ModMii as well.

Hey,
I modded my wii late last night with Modmii, and everything is working fine so far. I installed d2x v6 already, and all games I've tried so far are working great. IOS reloading games included.

The only problem I have found is that occasionally (well, twice so far), the hdd doesn't seem to mount. I have it connected into the usb slot at the back closest to the base of the console, but sometimes when I go through the USB loader channel, it will just return to the wii menu.
My hdd is a Seagate Expansion 500gb, which I got based on the high praise in the usb compatibility list.

This a known issue? Usually I just unplug and replug, or power off the console and turn it back on for it to mount again.

Thanks

It's hard to answer if it is a known issue. You would need someone with the same cios and the same harddisk.
You could try to install Hermes cios as well, and see how well it works with those. Usbloaders have an option to switch to another cios upon game selection, so for your
gameplay, it shouldn't make a difference if you choose 249. I have 2 western digital passport drives which in my opinion don't work, and people reporting they work fine for them?
I also had an issue with the scummvm emulator. If I launched it from the HBC 1.08, it couldn't find it's games on the usb drive. If I launched it from wiixplorer, all went fine.
I also notice in the hacking section some reports of people saying that no game works with the latest d2x cios. Maybe they have the same case as yours, but worse. It might be worth to examine up to what cios version things worked fine for them. You could install that cios in a different slot and see if it makes a difference for you.

Is it possible to play games from an SDHC card? I already have the ability to use backup discs and an external HDD, I was just wondering since I have a 16GB lying around not doing anything lol.
