Hi guys, I'm new here^^. First of all, this forum and all the love for the switch is amazing. GBATEMP is also one of the main reasons why I've finally bought a Switch:-). As a sidenote, my switch is on FW 4.0.1, and I've found a nice serial number:-).)

To my question

Is it important to install an app before starting with the NAND dumping and the whole CFW process?
The nh server guide nh-server.github.io stated that it's necessary to go online and download a demo or something from the eshop before continuing with the whole CFW process.

and Secondly, I'm trying to achieve an emunand setup for playing offline/online using CFW/OFW. The thing is, I've already figured out that AUTORCM should be turned off but how do I install/play my bought games using OFW 4.1.0 without burning any fuses and therefore depriving me of the opportunity to downgrade in case Nintendo comes up with something.

Thanks so much for your help!!

DO NOT connect your switch online on sysnand.
A fresh NAND backup including its respective BOOT1/0 ought to be made beforehand further doing anything to your console.
In order to prevent the fuses from getting burned autoRCM must be set to on at all times. UNLESS it is an ipatched unit. autoRCM will brick an ipatched switch therefore it's not safe to turn on autoRCM on them. You're lucky to have gotten a 4.0 switch.
Get atmosphere and the kosmos bundle including It's signature patches from http://sdsetup.com
Make sure to set up emuNAND so you can keep your sysnand intact and possibly free of any traces of cfw/hacks. Once you set up your emuNAND (there's a handful of guides out there in the tutorials section on how to do that) update it with choidujournx to the latest fw.
Do not connect your emuNAND to the internet always update offline via Choi.

thanks for your help NONAND. So basically everything's good so far:-) I finished the initial boot process, turned on aeroplane mode, telemetry off and prepared a paperclip:-) + the files from sdsetup.

Now I'm beginning with the NAND dump WITHOUT ANY APP installed?

I know it's a dumb question but the NH server guide states that it's necesarry to download an eshop demo to have at least one app installed before proceeding.

Regarding AUTORCM, as far as I know, it's somehow bricking the switch and forcing it into RCM on every start. Isn't that easily detectable even after booting into OFW?

Thanks for your help!

P.S Thanks for your help, Yeah^^ I was really lucky with my switch. I basically went to the least frequented shop in my area to get an old SN:-). And they still have plenty of old SN consoles:-)

But by accessing the eshop the system will require you to update, given that you're running an early switch system software thus demanding to update your sysnand.
So do a clean NAND backup first before doing anything. then install emuNAND.
Just in case you forget which is which and can't distinguish between the two set for example the white theme on sysnand and the black one in emuNAND just so you won't get confused.
On a side note to the autoRCM.
I'm not entirely sure on that and alas can not provide with a definitive answer on that.

Thanks NoNAND you're helping a lot! The theme idea is really nice. Thanks for that!
NO worries about the AUTORCM thing. To be somewhat secure, I'll leave it off and wait with any updates until I've figured that out.

Do you happen to have a RCM jig lying around somewhere?
Sure paperclips jigs are easy to make but keep in mind that they aren't that resilient and tend to bend easily. So let's say you decide to pick up your switch slide your paperclip connect your USB cable, press the plus volume button to enter RCM and only for your switch to boot normally as the paperclip pins didn't make contact.
Refrain from using sketchy paperclip jigs (or keep autoRCM on) or use a reliable RCM 3d printed jig.
Take care :)

You are absolutely right. I'm going to order a nice 3D printed Jig anyways. The paperclip only needs to work for 1-2 days. #Amazon^^

OFFtopic: Just noticed your signature. Grey Joycons are the best!:D

Good.
Get yourself a nice paperclip but not one that's too expensive considering at heart it's just a piece of plastic with to metal strings attached to the bottom.

You dont need a jig. Hell I've modded countless switches for people using a nicely folded piece of aluminum foil. You only need to enter RCM this way once. Then turn on autoRCM and you're good to go.
thanks Kafluke. So you're basically saying it's safe to proceed with AUTORCM turned on while using an emunand offline/sysnand setup for online play?
