could i have some help troubleshooting? doesn't show up on my N3DSXL (Luma CFW) either.
formatted a 8GB microSD card as fat32 on kubuntu, and extracted DSTWO_PLUS_v1.14_eng.zip.
i dont know what other information i can really give, but i'd be happy to give it lol

the only thing i can think of what's going on is that maybe the firmware is bricked. if it is, could it possibly be recovered using nds-bootstrap's recovery tools (which i have on my n3dsxl)?

When you say "nds-bootstrap recovery tools" I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to. You can however try launching the unbricking tool from nds-bootstrap if you really have no other flashcard. Here's a little guide I adapted a while ago.
    Code:
    1. Put dstwo_load_NDSL.nds on an alternative flashcarts Slot 1 SD.
    2. Extract DSTWO_v1.14_2015_0722_eng.zip and Firmware_v1.25_eng.zip on the DSTWO's Slot 1 SD root.
    3. Launch dstwo_load_NDSL.nds, you may need an original DS/L.
    4. Insert your DSTWO without it's SD card (Important!)
    5. Insert the SD card containing the firmware without removing your DSTWO.
    6. Press B, it should begin flashing the update.
Here's the link to the unbricker tool: http://down.supercard.sc/download/dstwo/tools/dstwo_load_NDSL.nds
    And the last firmware: http://down.supercard.sc/download/dstwo/Firmware/Firmware_v1.25_eng.zip
You probably already have EOS on your SD card, but in the case you don't; it's required: http://down.supercard.sc/download/dstwo/DSTWO_v1.14_2015_0722_eng.zip
