Does anyone know of a way to permanently disable the Deflicker filter while running games on the Disc Channel? I know it's possible with apps like USBLoaderGX and Nintendont, but I specifically need to be on the Disc channel. Also if done with the loaders specified, deflicker comes back when the game is soft reset.

I understand that the hack only applies to the main menu?

To deactivate the filter in DVD games you will have to start them from Neogamma or USBL GX.

For Neogamma

First extract the main.dol of the game and open it from a hex editor, look for the exact strings and modify them.

Rename the dol with the first four initials of the game ID and finally in the options of Neogamma activate the alternative dol option, that's all.

Well, we probably would need to see if modifying the Disc Channel data could help, but if you want to play your discs without the filter you can launch them through USB Loader GX. Whenever the Wii changes into a different "program" the video mode tends to reset to default, so it's not usually possible to keep the deflicker from the main menu.

Whenever you insert a disc, USB Loader GX will have a disc-like channel pop up, and you can then play your disc without the filter, and whatever extra settings you want. So at least that's an option. For GC games, you can also launch your games through Nintendont with Force NTSC/PAL60 to have the filter out (not to mention improved frame rate compared to launch the games from the disc channel).

Only problem with this is that it doesn't persist through soft resets, For speedrunner purposes (I speedrun) I would love to know if there was a way to make it stay off, as I will be resetting the game a lot.

It also applies for Cheat codes

@CheeseBurgerwithLove (Have to reply to you like this because otherwise the site doesn't let me) I tried this approach but there are over 300 of the specified strings... I want to edit the .dol of Metroid Prime 2 and also Prime 1 and 3's. Also the alternate .dol option of neogamma is only in the Wii load settings, not GC which is what I want

If you want to persist, then modify the game files. If you are playing the games standalone, so 1 and 2 are GC, and 3 on Wii, instead of the Trilogy disc, then on the link above you can see how to modify the dol of 3.

For GC games, you can do this:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/possible-to-disable-the-wiis-de-flicker-filter.477163/post-9492091

I have not seen a single dol that has more than one string when looking for the correct one, so I don't know how could be 300.

Also, I guess it depends on the game, but resetting on Nintendont maintains the filter out when resetting (the games don't get rebooted, just go back to the main screen).

@Maeson
Is there no way to use the modified .dol alongside the original gamecube disc though? So far I've only read that you can do it with USBLoaderGX but I only see the option for Wii games

@K3Nv2, I think the RP5 has had 8GBs for a while? I know mine has 8GBs not sure it's needed for emulation though? Probably 4GBs is enough for 99% of what it's fast enough to emulate? I could be wrong if it can do like GC and PS2 stuff maybe more is needed? Probably stream the ROMs like the consoles did off the drives.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I believe what they do is OS and translation layer (emulator) and the emulator has its RAM like 36MBs for PS2 so like 3 times that maybe as things are shuffled around, a frame buffer and. Load the data from the ROM file into that systems RAM. I think I read that even 2GBs is enough if your just using a Pi for emulation.

    What's an RP5?

    Raspberry Pi 5
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
For me it's just an emulation machine

Like a super mini system, I use Batocera as an OS and it's pretty easy to set up, has a ton of UI skins you can make it look almost anyway you want. Still would kill for a WiiFlow like skin (some are close)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I bought the 8GB model because my thoughts on that is the the difference between the models is like 20 bucks so why not get the good one just in case.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Almost never hear anyone complaining about too much RAM but not enough? Yeah best to avoid that one. Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I did kind of overshoot on storage, a 2TB nvme drive and I think 1TB would have been plenty.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Probably have like 700GBs of stuff on it now, and don't think I can add much more.
