This is dependent on where you are / your country... for example, until recently, "piracy" was legal in Canada. You're still breaching copyright laws.
This is a nice summary of what actually takes for Nintendo to go after you. Thus far, the individuals that ninty has sued for piracy aren't exactly benign parties. They were all warned (C&D) multiple times but either refused to comply or broke their agreement. Ninty didn't go for the nuclear option straight away.
In the case of "archbox", it is stated that he initially agreed to comply with the C&D. But it was found out later that he continued to violate it. And when confronted, he allegedly changed his tune and told them that he wasn't doing anything wrong.
For the most recent "pirate streamer", he ignored all warnings (over the course of 2 years I believe) and emailed ninty's legal department with a taunt that basically said to the effect of "Come get me if you can bruh, I'm not gonna stop, I have thousands of burner accounts, I can do this all day!".
Ninty warned them multiple times, what recourse was there left for them? Legal, as prescribed by the law. The individuals that ninty are making an example out of are the outliers who repeatedly poked the hornet's nest. The overwhelming majority stop at the first C&D.
I was thinking of the littlest nuclear bomb item from the MDK series, actually.Nintendo HQs deserve to be egged daily
Yeah, I'm getting juuust a lil' bit tired of all the "it's always morally correct to blah blah" and the "if buying isn't owning piracy isn't stealing" stuff. Those people are more interested in letting the world see how cool they are by pirating things than, y'know, actually doing the stuff. Posers. Lol.Yeah, this is what I see all this ultimately culminating into. With the recent lawsuits that have been occurring regarding piracy, and the subpoena on top of that, I would not be surprised if the brazen openness, endless bragging/taunting, and "holier-than-thou"* attitude of Reddit pirates and pirates in other communities ultimately gets all emulators except those authorized by IP holders outlawed.
*(Ex: The same behavior that bred the constantly-regurgitated "It Is AlWaYs MoRaLlY rIgHt To PiRaTe NiNtEnDo GaMeS" copy/pasta that practically every single pirate these days seems to live and die by.)
While I agree with the facts and the sentiment, this likely was an opportune teachable moment regarding VPN services, not just private trackers.... And guess what? Anybody can post stuff on usenet, you don't have any assurance that stuff posted there is legit. In contrast to private trackers, which have high quality standards and low quality or malicious content gets quickly removed and bad users are banned.
We can pray that the recent flashcards still work (as switch 2 should be backwards compatible)! For all those people that are saying that the New Switch will be hacked soon, don't hold your breath
am imagining average reddit user getting turned into an informant for reddit gold lolusing Reddit is a worse crime
If you gave Nintendo infinite amount of money they wouldn't use it to improve their products/company they would just sue everyone on Earth
It's not that the hardware was outdated, it's the clocking Big N set for it is so low, to the point if you did hack it and even overclock it, you can potentially emulate switch games on a switch in 4K.I'm still baffled by people wanting to mod their Switches. Just emulate the games you want to play. It's better than playing it on hardware that was outdated when it was first released.
Yep, and you'll get to witness that glorious 4K for all of 8 minutes before the battery runs out. It's not that the hardware was outdated, it's the clocking Big N set for it is so low, to the point if you did hack it and even overclock it, you can potentially emulate switch games on a switch in 4K.
I mod mine for homebrew ports and retroarch.. plus some of us don't have a gaming pc or want to use oneI'm still baffled by people wanting to mod their Switches. Just emulate the games you want to play. It's better than playing it on hardware that was outdated when it was first released.
