Nintendo Wants Reddit to expose people who were part of the R/SwitchPiracy subreddit

Remember the lolsuit Nintendo gave to the guy from Reddit who was dumb enough to send his modded Switch to Nintendo better known as James "Archbox" Williams?
Well.... Now they want to basically subpena anyone who was involved with the same thing that guy was.

If you want a TLR, Nintendo is wanting Google, Reddit, Namecheap, Tucows, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, GitHub and Discord to do a subpena for anyone who was related to various switch pirate related things that were related to Archbox, which they can do becuase Archbox didn't give a defense and now Nintendo can get a Default Judgement (so they can win easier).

And before any one of you come up and say they're gonna have a hard time pulling it off (especially those who are deep into the idea that "Piracy is completely moral even if I act like a complete dumbass and expose myself doing it to the entire world!"), These are Redditors we're talking about (some of which i'm sure post here too), they hardly even know the bare basics of not doing stupid shit, let alone the bare minimum of piracy (Step -1 being don't make it obvious that you're a pirate, including making your any part of your persona that you're a pirate) so they very likely have thier public information out for grabs by these companies while thinking they can't get it.

Oh, as a bonus for how dumb redditors are for anyone who for some reason would try and defend this for reasons besides "ruining someone's life over sharing files is immoral", here's an example of one of the dedicated piracy subreddits making it a hard rule that you can't refer to Piracy as it is and refer it as "Game Backups" dispite Piracy being in the Subreddit name



Nintendo's legal and buisness side may be dumb but Redditors are even dumber and get what they deserve for trying to have thier cake and eat it too.

I don't download warez, but even if I did, I'd use usenet. only idiots use torrents, no offense. you might as well provide your ip address, your credit card number, etc. like I said, stupid people use torrents.

IP addresses aren't private. Every website you've ever visited and every service you've ever used has your IP and there are plenty of bots scanning the entire IP range. Sounds like you're just paranoid.
"No offense" Sounds like offense to me, not gonna lie.
If you're paranoid, you can do what a lot of people do and use a VPN. It's not really a big deal.

Edit: You act like you can get some sort of computer STD just from connecting to another computer. That's not how any of this works, and even if it was, everything you do on the internet requires connecting to other computers. So you're screwed and you should probably go ahead and cancel your internet subscription. I have never seen this level of ignorance from anyone on the internet. Did you think "the cloud" was referring to an actual cloud? No, it's just a bunch of computers controlled by people you don't know who may or may not have good intentions. Not too dissimilar to the computers you connect to when you download a torrent. Or, for that matter, the computers you connect to in order to download files from usenet. And guess what? Anybody can post stuff on usenet, you don't have any assurance that stuff posted there is legit. In contrast to private trackers, which have high quality standards and low quality or malicious content gets quickly removed and bad users are banned.

I'm tired of Switch piracy threads. After some time you realize you see the same types of people saying the same thing over and over, either getting offended or offending other people over the same things.

Nothing against anyone who wishes to continue engaging in these threads, but personally, I've seen it all.

Piracy is a victimless crime, there is no "justice" in wasting money and court time just to drag people through the courts. Again, consider touching grass, no one outside of large corporations cares about piracy

Reddit users actually. They all seem to be pro torrent and when you try to tell them that direct downloads exist and are better they neg you. They're not humans I tell you, not humans.

I've used torrents maybe 2-3 times in the last 12 years after I kept getting warnings in the mail from my ISP about some company that wants to sue me. Fast forward to now and probably thousands of direct downloads not a peep from anyone, because it's not even remotely possible to get harassed about downloading from mediafire.

And I know there's VPNs but that's money you have to pay to protect you when you don't have to pay anything to protect you from direct downloads.

I never was a huge fan of torrents anyway with having to seed with each other at all. This doesn't exist with direct downloads. I think they're like Napster and those sites from like 2000 just something that was good in it's prime but it feels like to me if you're using them now you're just doing it wrong.
