An anonymous source sent me this picture today showing a prototype for new, smaller Wii remotes, roughly the same size as the nunchuck. He said they are most likely to come bundled with New Super Mario Bros. Wii to encourage multiplayer modes, and to be bundled with new shipments of Wii Play. The expansion port on the bottom is smaller, but each one will come with a converter, allowing a regular sized nunchuck to be used with it. The smaller Wii remote will take two AAA batteries.

What about the motion plus? Are they releasing a smaller version of that too?

This will only make sense if it has motion plus built in.

He said this isn't meant to replace the current model, just a smaller, cheaper way to get more people into more casual games

If you look closley at the wiimote, the buttons or the d-pad have no crease, you know the little seperation between the button and the case to push a button in.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but its a fake!

I've seen these plenty in novelty stores, they're full of candy!
They also have a NES gamepad as well.

The speaker holes, well they aren't [IMG] among other inconsistencies

Completely fake. It doesn't even make any sense with the Motion+ launching now.
Needs an adapter to use the nunchuck? Ridiculous. Completely unlike Nintendo.

It's not like the current Wiimote is huge and cumbersome like the original xbox controller. Quite the opposite.

Making the controller smaller and fidlier would only detract casual players.
The appeal of the current controller is that it is a similar size and shape to a TV remote.

This redesign completely undermines Nintendo's strategy and the entire Blue Ocean model.

I expect staff to be of at least of reasonable intelligence around here...

    Yeah...that's a candy dispenser.

Hoo man, I hope this rumor doesn't take off. Could be quite embarrassing for GBATemp.

    Good one!

If there would be such thing, it would be a bad move by Ninty. Obviously, it's not ergonomic and unnecessary. Yeah my family would be into video games but first, let them have a major hand cramp.
