Nintendo's set to give away a free classic game via Nintendo 3DS's upcoming eShop.

According to reports out of Nintendo's Japanese investor meeting this morning, Nintendo plans to add an incentive for 3DS owners to update their systems next month, by distributing a 3D version of Excitebike free of charge.

The firmware update will add, among other things, the eShop and a 3DS internet browser.

Iwata reportedly told investors this morning Nintendo plans to start by releasing Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games on the 3DS shop, but after that it wants to add more classic formats to the service (GBA?)[/p]

Now when does the May update come out!? :B

And I noticed he said "More Classic Systems". How about some decent Game & Watch ports? Or maybe some Wonderswan games?

All we need is access to purchasing GBA Titles then the 3DS will be complete.

I hope they don't decide to limit the retro selection to games that were portable to begin with.
An officially endorsed solution for portable SNES games would be killer.

Guess they had to give away something since most of the features in this update should of been available on launch.

Any idea if this is a limited thing?

    Edit: Japanese only?

I try playing various games on emulators on my Android phone...even with haptic feedback, I just can't get used to having no physical buttons.
