Nintendo to create a Mii Maker for web browsers

Miitomo, Nintendo's Mii-based mobile app has already been announced to be shutting down later this month, however, in a final notice to players in the game, Nintendo announced something new. At the end of May, Nintendo will be creating a web browser application that will allow players to make and edit Mii characters. This will let users who don't use Nintendo consoles create and link a Mii to their Nintendo Account. If you already have a Mii tied to an account, you'll be able to edit it simply by visiting Nintendo's site when the feature goes live. Those that have Miitomo downloaded will have until May 9th to link their Mii, in which afterwards the service will shut down, while Nintendo will spend a day on maintenance to migrate the Mii characters.

As previously announced, the Miitomo app will no longer be available as of May 9, 2018 at 12 AM (PDT).

If you link a Nintendo Account to Miitomo, you will be able to use your Miitomo Mii characters on your Nintendo Account. We will also provide the folowing option to create and edit Mii characters after Miitomo service has ended.

With the end of Miitomo service, it will no longer be possible to create or edit Mii characters using Miitomo, but we are planning to add a feature in late May 2018 which will enable you to create and edit Mii characters for your Nintendo Account via your web browser of choice.

In order to add this feature, we will be performing system migration maintenance from the end of Miitomo service until late May 2018. During this period, you will not be able to change your Mii character set to your Nintendo Account (including clothes and accessories).

Additionally, changes made to the Mii character for your Nintendo Network ID will not be applied to your Nintendo Account Mii character.

You will be able to continue using your Miitomo Mii character as the Mii character for your Nintendo Account after the termination of Miitomo service, but you will not be able to use the clothes and accessories you had set in Miitomo after maintenance is complete. (Any clothes and accessories you had already set will be removed.)

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Why should anyone without a Nintendo console make a Nintendo Account to begin with?
Will the Mario Kart for smartphones use them somehow?

Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp need them if you want to save your game data. If you're an entirely mobile player, it makes sense.
