Nintendo takes down the Breath of the Wild randomizer mod from Gamebanana

Another day, another Nintendo DMCA takedown against fan-made content.

Just a few minutes ago, Nintendo issued a DMCA takedown notice against a widely known and popular Randomizer mod for Breath of the Wild made by Waikuter and hosted in Gamebanana. Effective immediately, the mod in question has been completely removed from Gamebanana with the quote "This Mod has been trashed for a rule violation", with the rule violation in question being listed as "DMCA Takedown".

The full message for the DMCA takedown is also displayed thereafter:

DMCA Takedown Notice said:

It's important to note that, as it has been the case with other recent takedowns seen from Nintendo, this was issued from the domain "mm-nintendo.com", which is a MarkMonitor operator for Nintendo themselves to issue these kind of take downs and notices.

It seems that Nintendo has started to handle takedowns in what looks to be an automated/bot process through MarkMonitor, as several other places with mods and Nintendo assets, like imagery and its characters, have been receiving the same notices from that mm-nintendo.com domain, like in the case of Gmod and its takedown of 20 years-long Nintendo assets, and it's worth mentioning that romsites have also been receiving these particular notices as of late from the same domain.

Glad I already had this installed on my Wii U. It’s super fun to mess around with and makes a unique challenge, especially when the game starts spawning Lynels and Moldugas everywhere. Sad to see it’s gone for now but I’m sure someone will reupload it somewhere else.

Super disappointing, but like all else says, not unexpected. Not that it really matter, but kinda wonder if the majority of people that work at Nintendo care or have an opinion on this, or if they really even know it's going on.

Not only this mod was affected but also other mods related to BOTW or TOTK. If Nintendo has switched to using AI to automatically send DCMA to any mod or content related to its games then it really has hit rock bottom. Fortunately the latest versions of the randomizer mods have been uploaded to the internet archive.

The Internet Archive can still get DMCA'd.

With regards to rare, it can be summed up as follows.

Shiggy: "D.K. is not my favorite character anymore"
Rare: *develops dk 64*
Shiggy: "this game is made like ass, it won't sell"
Rare: "lol, whatever" *gets greenlit to require n64 expansion pack*
Dk64: *one of the hottest selling games of the year, and of the franchise*

Miyamoto: *angry woke eyes and tantrums internally*
Nintendo legal: *robs Rare blind*
Rare: "wtf is your problem bro?"
Shiggy: dealwithit.gif

~Later~
Rare: *developing Dinosaur Planet*
Miyamoto: "hey this is cool. Let's make it a star fox game!"
Rare: what
Shiggy: *angry woke eyes*
Rare: *releases starfox adventures*
Game: meh seller
Shiggy: "lol u guys suq"
Rare: 🖕🖕*agrees to buyout deal with Microsoft*
Shiggy: *shocked Pikachu face*
Nintendo: *new dk games suck*

As for Argonaut, the Star fox 64 development was under his helm. Argonaut was tasked on Star Fox 2.

Long story short, argonaut was way ahead on making their milestones and feature stuff while Miyamoto's team was lagging. Shiggy threw another tantrum, and used legal to seize their work and pull funding, all but guaranteeing a slow death spiral.

That nintendo waited 22 YEARS, to release the game finally, first on the snes classic, is no accident. They waited for the company to be bankrupt, and for their leader to pass away, just so Nintendo didnt have to pay them in a strictly cynical and mercenary manner.

Credit due, Shigeru is a solid designer, but HOLY FUCK he does not handle being shined on by another person, let alone an outside studio, at all.
Is this your slash fanfic? What source?

actually they cant. congress specifically passed a bill allowing them preservationalist priveledge like a library of congress.
your forgetting they have their own archaic laws and rules that they will make you follow! all they have to do is send in the DMCABOT and whoever is on the receiving end will cave in and submit because they know they can get away with it now.

I find it curious that Nintendo/Game Freak didn't even grumble in Pal World's direction. I harbor a suspicion that they had no interest in making a peep towards a well funded company that would have adequate legal representation and are only going after entities they know they can bully and expect will fold at the first letter.

Why are people even releasing Nintendo mods and projects on forums and stuff with their names/online handles attached? We all know by now Nintendo DMCA this stuff.

So take your mods and your projects, make some announcements in different circles and drop them online onto torrent sites and file sharing sites anonymously. What can Nintendo do about that? Jack zip.
I keep saying it, most internet users in this day and age are too fucking stupid and lazy to do anything like that and would rather rely on public modding sites like Gamebananna or mindlessly promoting that for everyone to see on shit like Tik Tok and drawing attention to the lawyers, not to mention people just keep forgetting that Nintendo (and their American division especially) are notorious for DMCAs until it's convenient for them to remember.
