Nintendo Switch Sells 10 Million Worldwide

Nintendo Switch Sells 10 Million Worldwide
Nintendo’s Video Game System Passes Major Milestone in Just Nine Months

Despite launching in March, a month not usually reserved for home console launches, and with the busy holiday shopping season still in full swing, the Nintendo Switch system has already sold 10 million units to consumers around the world, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures.

Full PR:
Nintendo Switch is a home console that can be played on a TV, and also taken instantly on the go – it lets people play their favorite games anytime, anywhere and with anyone. And since every Nintendo Switch system comes bundled with two Joy-Con controllers, players can easily share the fun of compatible multiplayer games with friends and family right out of the box.

The robust and diverse library on Nintendo Switch features two of the most acclaimed video games of all time in Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At The Game Awards last week in Los Angeles, Super Mario Odyssey won the award for Best Family Game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was honored with the awards for Game of the Year, Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Game Direction.

Nintendo Switch is also home to fun multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and ARMS that can be played online or with friends and family in the same room, as well as an ever-growing list of great third-party games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, FIFA 18, Rocket League, L.A. Noire, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Golf Story and Stardew Valley, Nintendo Switch is truly for any player.

“As you can see in people’s living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The response from fans has been great, and we’re doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”

After a record-breaking 2017, Nintendo Switch will continue its momentum in 2018. The system will see the launch of Nintendo-published games like Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and a new game in the beloved Yoshi franchise, in addition to big third-party games like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from Bethesda, Mega Man 11 from Capcom, PROJECT OCTOPATH TRAVELER (working title) from Square Enix, Shovel Knight: King of Cards from Yacht Club Games and Runner 3 from Choice Provisions.

Nintendo Switch hits 10 million sales worldwide since its launch on 3rd March 2017, with a range of award-winning games including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey already available, with plenty more experiences to come in 2018.

the console isnt powerful enough to handle our games on 4k resolution...
So if we cant bring up 4K experience to our customers, we prefer not releasing it

I still can't even find a Nintendo Switch anywhere, much less anyone with one to try out. The closest I've been able to get to handle one, was some used JoyCon controller at GameStop. And i found that way too tiny.

I'm also still upset and angry that Nintendo chose a sealed battery, ensuring that I'm only renting it at $300 a pop, and would probably go through about three or four of them, since the batteries will be gone in a year anyway.

I would have also brought up how ridiculous Nintendo is for charging $70+tax for a real controller for the thing, but thankfully there are several (unintended?) Third party controllers that do the job and don't cost anywhere near that (and fit a lot nicer). But, of course, Nintendo had to require motion controls for its first party games to make you use the JoyCon bits. Almost as bad as the forced motion controls in Star Fox Zero.

Granted, i am fully intending on waiting, until No More Heroes 3 is out; but not even being able to try one out, or any of the existing games, doesn't leave me much else to go on other than "JoyCons are too small".
I can get A switch almost any day of the week where I live

looks like Zelda is the best launch title for nintendo consoles.. first with the wii and now switch. also i had the feeling switch sales were a bit undertracked.

Guess the original PS4 and Xbox 1 is left out too. lol

I mean, there's always a possibility that a game can't run even at low settings, but I think most games would be OK in that regard. Other than that, as of what have been said, they will be lagging behind on some ports because they haven't started yet.

Actually, my bigger fear as of right now, is devs rushing ports and then trying to patch it later. Fine, it runs better later on, but damage has already been done.

I have PC for 3rd party

If this success gets Nintendo motivated to release entries on all of their great franchises, even the almost forgotten ones this is good enough for me(Mother/Earthbound I'm looking at you).

Other than that is none of my concern, not invested in stock from Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft. Games are all I care about.

I'm not putting it at 17.5m a year. However, I don't compare it to the PS4.
You realize, that, the switch sold that (10M) in nine months. For PlayStation 4 to take that amount it took 10. I think we have a threat on our hand

Dunno. As Tom said earlier the momentum will inevitably die down. Nintendo may start strong but it's rarely consistent.

well, from what I saw on a wikipedia page, the Famicom lasted longer than any other console
The Famicom production ended after n64's

I highly doubt seeing this as another Wii U fiasco.

Huh? The WiiU had a rough time. Start to finish.

Would make sense. It's kind of the console that put them out there. If you don't know about the Famicom/NES, YOU'RE WRONG.

I feel like it is going to stay consistent. Keep in mind they haven't even released smash bros yet. Not only that but nearly fifty percent of people bought breath of the wild, super mario odyssey, and Mario kart 8 deluxe. Lets also not forget to mention it reached this number starting in a weird month. Chances are it will keep going, which, unlike the wii and wiiu. As actually far more manageable than the wiiu and wii. Which can, and probably will if the player base keeps growing at this rate, result in AAA games that devs originally said they wouldn't port over. Already quite a few companies are saying they are going to officially support the switch. Lets also not forget some of these ports, aren't botched to being unplayable. (course not counting the slobs of EA.)

It reached these numbers starting in a slow month. Spring for games hardly brings much. Smash didn't save the Wii U. Let's be honest. I have faith in the Switch. It picked up where the Wii U dropped. Time will tell.

Nothing could save the wiiu. But nearly every person who owned a wiiu, had smash brothers. Which it also managed to boost console sales a little.

People are thinking this could be another Wii U, strong start but weak the rest of the time.

The Wii U didn't even start strong. The Switch absolutely trashed the Wii U in year 1 sales.

About to buy BotW again. I miss it. Dunno why.

How do we know it won't be a repeat through the years? I'm sure people would love to see Nintendo fail so they can have their precious PS4 Mario games

Those are the people whose noses I rub into their verbal excrement...

Nintendo won't go the route of Sega anytime soon.
