Nintendo Switch Online NES/SNES games for December revealed, includes Donkey Kong Country 3

More classic games are on the way, for users subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Five more titles will be added to NES and SNES library on Switch, on December 18th. These additions include Nightshade, for the NES, and Super Valis IV, Tuff E Nuff, The Ignition Factor, and Donkey Kong Country 3, for the Super NES. December's lineup means that players will finally be able to experience all three of the original Donkey Kong Country games on the Nintendo Switch, following Donkey Kong Country 2's addition back in September.

Nightshade is a great little game. The only downpoint is the combat that sometimes is insanely hard.

Too bad the developer went under.

At $20 a year for nearly 100 NES and SNES games, Tetris 99 and Mario 35, the Switch online service really isn't a bad deal, even if some of the NES and SNES games are weak.

Still, it's time for it to expand, add N64 already, or at least Game Boy.

I mean I'll be doing both. Crazy how well some of those 8 and16 bit games still hold up.
Those systems would bring a price spike, no doubt.
They'll come in VC form, most surely, considering Super Mario All Stars.

I have barely touched the NES or SNES games and still got my money's worth, which is under 10 bucks per year, since I share a family subscription. No whataboutism needed here, but please name a cheaper subscription service in the field of entertainment that provides more than just online functionality.

If you try to reduce the service to those old games, you clearly must be desperately seeking for reasons to hate on it. You are probably the type to argue that a subscription would always cost $3.99 a month, because the 1-month pay plan says so.

>More than just online functionality
Lmao, I wish NSO actually did that, but the ping on their P2P games is so outrageously bad that it's unplayable.

I don't see why Game Boy would bring a price spike. We've been paying $20 a year when there was only a handful of games on the NES, then SNES was added, but no increase in payment, and they've added many games since. Maybe N64 would bring a price spike, but I'm pretty doubtful on that too. Gamecube and beyond is where they'd almost surely increase the price or start releasing individual titles again as VC releases, but honestly I don't think we're ever gonna see a proper VC on the Switch.

Also, what does Super Mario All Stars have to do with anything? That game was added to SNES Online for free just like any other game they've added including these games. Now that Fire Emblem NES game that they've released separately might be something to consider though.

I was referring to the new Mario All Stars. Considering they are all emulated, the probability of GC games coming over in VC form is high.

And knowing Nintendo, anything else gets taxed. I concur that GB wouldn't be worthy of price increase, but anything over SNES, would.

This is very laughable.... its 2021 soon and they still releasing just couple of NES/SNES games every few months. Thats a shame..... they should release much more games considering how "big" is the SNES library, many good games still missing and probably will never got released.... then soon the next Nintendo console will release and there would be no support for NES/SNES games etc. and again, waiting for months/years to include 2-3 older games in half a year or NEVER. Not saying they should copy what Microsoft is doing (would be great, not expecting it) but this should be definitively much better than how it is now.

Cmon Nintendo........... this is really bad policy.

Eh, I wouldn't count on it. If we get GameCube games on the Switch, sure, but honestly, I'm doubtful we're gonna see much more than that beyond Mario Sunshine, and maybe some individual third party rereleases down the line.

It's been two years and still no EarthBound Beginnings/EarthBound..
Like I said earlier, at this point, there must be a Mother/Earthbound Trilogy separate release in the works. The games haven't been released in Japan yet either. Seems really telling considering all major 1st and 2nd party releases aside from them having been released on the NES and SNES online services.

Is this the same game known as The Firemen in European regions? Or something different?
Yeah both have the same objective though were different games by different developers and different companies. The Firemen was developed by Human Entertainment, who also made Clock Tower on the Super Famicom.

Reminder that the online was free until Ninty decided you should pay for it instead. In exchange for the same awful online play and old games you've seen time and time again and probably played before, or not good at all to begin with.
Might be cheaper than the others, yeah, but I'd have to guess those other subscriptions by sony or microsoft sure give you more bang for your buck.
But whatevs.

Yes, it was free. Now it isn't, BUT if you want to play online games, you will pay either way This is a nice "extra".

Ah, yes, the seminal point-and-click classic for the NES, Nightshade: The Claws of [*retching noise I make when coughing up phlegm in the morning*]. Joined by that SNES classic, Expand Dong 3: Now Featuring Neither Expand NOR Dong!

And, sadly, these games do not make me completely erect. I'd say I'm disappointed, but that's giving Nintendo's offerings too much credit when the gods-damned Virtual Console on the 3DS was more consolidated of a package than this schlock.

I wouldn't have a problem with having to pay for the online if it was any good.

Actually I don't, I don't have a switch, lmao, but I hate bullshit. Which this is.
Also, you had to add quotation marks to the "extra" there, even you know this ain't no extra at all.
Its more of a consolation prize than anything else.

But they literally have no obligation to do this and they still did it. I think it is nice.

People pay for Sony Playstation Plus too, which also isn't the best service imo.

Also this NSO is still way cheaper.

I'm kinda impressed that, I think it's called game pass, on the 360 to where you can rent a game like dragon quest xi when it just came out this month. one of my friends is playing the game on that system after his hdd or something crashed on the ps4 causing him to lose his save. that was the original dragon quest though not the S version. he didn't want tor rebuy the game, so he's using his wife's subscription.
