Nintendo says it currently has no plans to release any other Switch revisions beyond the OLED model

oled_model_photo_01.0.jpg

With Bloomberg having spent years reporting on the existence of an upgraded Nintendo Switch unit, and for all those rumors to culminate in the Nintendo Switch OLED model, some fans have been disappointed with all Nintendo has to offer. Beyond that, others believe that the fabled "Switch Pro" still exists, but has been delayed due to a shortage of materials, with some outlets still speculating that the information leak of "4K output" for a new Switch variant means there will be an inevitable Switch Pro somewhere down the line. Nintendo themselves have stepped in to right the rumors and say, definitively, that they have "no plans for launching any other model [of the Nintendo Switch] at this time".

Eh, I think you're overestimating how much power the chipsets can give out, but whatever. I don't exactly know any of the actual technical knowhows of the Tegra X1 chipsets, but I think it wouldn't be that big a jump in power to make it become a "Switch Pro" with just higher clock speeds. Plus, there's stability in mind with those higher clocks, so there's just a lot of stuff to work around to make it actually work especially in a small form factor tablet where heat can easily generate.
you do know we can do that right? you can overclock the switch cpu and gpu with homebrew and thousands of people tested and besides the fans going abit faster it doesnt damage the switchsure batery gets down faster but that is about it just watch the video

When they say "there will be no more revisions", They mean for the current switch. That doesn't include a "Next gen switch" i.e new soc, memory type etc

Yeah I have a feeling that a lot of people don't understand the difference.
However, there is also the possibility that Nintendos next gen console won't be a hybrid.

Either they release a portable only system, or they release a hybrid. Heck, the Wii sold like hot cakes, but the DS still sold more.
I'm betting they'll choose to stick with the hybrid system.

Didn't they say the exact same thing after the launch of the Switch Lite? Although I'm willing to believe it this time. Three variants is usually where Ninty maxes out before moving on to the upgrade. Think about it- Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Light, then the color. GBA, GBA SP, GameBoy Micro, then the DS. DS, DS Lite, DSi, 3DS. 3DS, 2DS, New 3DS, Switch. Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED.. then, uh.. stalling until the sales dip deep enough to justify a successor.

You forgot the 3DS XL models and that's basically what this OLED model is most similar to.

Feels like people just want to keep dreaming about a Switch Pro and try their best to find reasons to keep dreaming.
First of all: Nintendo never ever said that there will be a more powerful Switch.
Second: Never try to predict Nintendo, you will fail (Pretty much every time)

If Nintendo says there is no plans, then I believe just that. There are no plans.
They didn't say that they have nothing to announce. That would be different.
No plans basically means, they have not even started working on it.

Could they make plans? Sure! But that would take time and effort and with the current chip shortages it's unlikely that they would be able to sell a lot before the Switch is too old?

I don't think the language they use proves a "Switch Pro" doesn't exist, just that it's far enough out that they don't know when it'd be ready for launch. I really wonder what Nintendo will do after the Switch, it really seems like a perfect experience being able to play however you want to. They could probably just continue to improve performance, battery life and the screen and I think most people would be happy. Will they ever make a console that's a Handheld only or TV only experience ever again? Nintendo have never seemed to worry about having the most powerful console so I don't think there'd be a situation where they opt to make a TV only experience because they can't fit the power they want into a handheld.

The lackluster switches RAM offering (and bandwith) is what'll cause the biggest problems for devs in the near future.*

A real predicament.

Incredible userbase, but the abyss between current-gen-tech and Switch-tech gets bigger and bigger.

At least there is one silver lining:
Switch's limitation beget lower filesizes.
I could've vomited each time I tries playing a "new" PS4 game when I still had one: Instaaaaaaaalls take sooo long.

*Kinda crazy how gaming as a whole has become so numbingly entitled.
Specs, specs, specs. Wat.

This is basically confirmation of a new Switch model. Nintendo has been using the same formula of "no plans for X at this time" since the Nintendo DS Lite rumors, as far as I can remember, probably even before then. And then they release "X" within a year and a half.

We see that they have been releasing a new model every two years, but I have a feeling that they might just upgrade the Switch OLED model with a new tegra chip (like they did with the 2019 model) to be released alongside BOTW 2. That would be incredibly annoying, so let's hope not

Of course they have no plan !! (until they do). Got to be an idiot to tell people please don't buy my product and wait for the next one.

Anyone able to get NSO to get the answer to the New Nintendo Switch question?

I mean, it's not like they would tell us given they just dropped this new version.
They probably just don't want people to wait for the possible "new" version.
It could exist or not, but I don't think they'd tell us lol

I mean, just a few months ago they were denying the existence of *any* new revision coming soon, so it's not like this statement means anything. I'm thinking this is their usual "XL" era which normally precedes an upgrade of some kind, all the pieces are there. This is, in effect, a Switch with a different, bigger screen.

Yes, I know we can overclock the Switch with homebrew and I've seen that video before. But it doesn't show that much of an increase in performance except if you're playing games in portable mode. I'm guessing that's where you're getting the whole "50% power boost" from:

For playing in docked mode, it doesn't improve all too much at max clocks. I still stand by that even if you increase clocks, it won't be a big jump to be a "Switch Pro".

Tech companies usually have to think a generation or two ahead to stay afloat. It would be shocking if Nintendo didn't have at least some rough plans for the Switch 3 by now.

there we go again, another one confusing Switch revision with new generation hardware.

I’m sure they have plans for their next generation hardware. But no plans for a new Switch revision…
They could make a Switch 2 for their next-gen hardware. Or they could do something completely different.

A Switch revision is basically a slightly upgraded version of the Switch. Like the New3DS to the 3DS..
Next-gen hardware however would be more similar to 3DS to NDS. Or GameCube to N64..

So Nintendo could still have a Switch 2 planned that is vastly superior to the Switch as their next-gen hardware, and they could even make it backwards compatible with the Switch if they keep up their partnership with Nvidia. Or they could do something completely different.. they are Nintendo after all.

compared to Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is very unpredictable.
