the ds is one of my favorite handhelds im gonna be sad when i put it down for the 3ds ive had it so long had many great experiences with it. but i will go back to it once in a while(i do the same for the GBA)leeday100196 said:i believe the DS original turns 5 this year. so that means that it's expected that the 3DS will last this long, if not longer. Still, I'm excited to see what happens between now and then, and after that, what amazing technological development overtakes it.

did i prove my theory?

my theory was that a nintendo console was not coming for a long while

If they want to use the 3DS as a pillar for 5 years, Nintendo as a company will cease to exist within that time frame. Apple is coming out with updates to the iPhone and iPad on a yearly basis. Android is on a 6 month cycle. In 5 years the 3DS will be literally 5-10 generations behind in the hand held market. Even at the GDC devs are actively taking about how the handheld gaming market is absolutely shifting towards the phone market. People do not want to carry 2 devices. They especially don't want to carry a uni-tasker. Why carry a 3DS if my phone does basically the same thing? That kind of question is going to become more and more relevant. The biggest handheld game last year was.... Angry Birds. The trend is moving towards gaming on the phone and if Nintendo misses the boat they'll be stuck with a handheld device no one wants.
Believe it or not, at one stage, the DS had a homebrew app that allowed you to call other people for no cost, except it used WiFi, but it was a pretty cool app. Sorry I know this is offtopic but I see the need to put it in as a reply.JinTrigger said:I really cannot see gaming and phones becoming one....I don't want my phone to play game like my 3DS has and I don't want my 3DS to make calls/text like my phone can do. And angry bird being the number one handheld...Wasn't it available on like almost everyone cell phone platform.....Everyone has a phone vs an actually handheld device....those are two totally different markets.

Actually, no, it cost money to call. It's really irrelevant to what he said anyway.leeday100196 said:Believe it or not, at one stage, the DS had a homebrew app that allowed you to call other people for no cost, except it used WiFi, but it was a pretty cool app. Sorry I know this is offtopic but I see the need to put it in as a reply.JinTrigger said:I really cannot see gaming and phones becoming one....I don't want my phone to play game like my 3DS has and I don't want my 3DS to make calls/text like my phone can do. Nah they'll have something better than kinect out, like a life-size simulator incorporating at least 3 of the senses (be it sight, hearing and one or more of smell/touch/taste). AND THEY SHALL CALL IT.... SIMTENDO haha not. maybe Nintendo Simulator or something more catchy and less cornyVigilante said:So whats next after 5 years,4DS
i don't like both. how about nintendo feel, or nintendo real?leeday100196 said:Nah they'll have something better than kinect out, like a life-size simulator incorporating at least 3 of the senses (be it sight, hearing and one or more of smell/touch/taste). Well on my original post, i said they include 3 senses. Nintendo already have that semi-happening (touch screen is the third, kind of). But I like Nintendo Real, maybe they'll go with the acronym again and do Nintendo XD for the simulator (Xtra Dimension).doyama said:If they want to use the 3DS as a pillar for 5 years, Nintendo as a company will cease to exist within that time frame. That's because people don't want to buy good money for a decent game. Simple things amuse simple minds. It's the cat with the newspaper ball analogy. It sees something expensive and likes/dislikes it but it is content with something as simple as a newspaper ball. Same goes here. I would know, I'm one of about 10 people at my school who have DS/i's and literally EVERYONE ELSE has an iPod/Phone. Ironically, it's the straight A kids with the DS consoles, and they have less-than-iPhone standard phones. We enjoy a good QUALITY game that challenges us, rather than the simple mechanics of the ipod games, that even noobs can beat. And we get laughed at for it.

Considering that "XD" has been used as a popular online "emote" there would be a lot of confusion between forumersleeday100196 said:Well on my original post, i said they include 3 senses.
