You may think that Nintendo has been slacking off when it comes to classic titles, but rest assured, they're on the case. Earlier today, Nintendo updated their classic NES game library, adding three exciting titles. NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon's Key, and Super Dodge Ball. Before you sit back down, though, Nintendo has also added a bonus NES title — The Legend of Zelda (Special). This is a 'souped up' Zelda ROM hack that gives the player unlimited rupees and item upgrades right from the get-go. It sits on the game selection menu as its own title, and serves as a way for younger or less experienced players to enjoy the classic title.

Update: Nintendo has now confirmed that there will be more titles similar to the newly added Special Edition of Zelda, designed to offer new entry points into classic titles.

This new Zelda "Special" doesn't serve much purpose unless OP missed something. Getting the items, collecting rupees is all what Zelda's about. Taking away all that gives this game very little fun left.

Would have been cool if they actually put in some effort and maybe throwing out a hack which had a different world, items, enemies and music.

They could put out the BOTW made with the OG Zelda Engine.

    Nintendo works for my dad
just out of curiousity: will this replace the existing Legend of Zelda or will it be a separate game?

As written in the OP, it's a seperate title on the NES game menu.

Do you really think it's that easy? The BOTW prototype they made wasn't even a ROM hack, it was a standalone thing.

I like the idea, but what's the fun of having infinite everything at the start?
I mean, a good idea, but nah, thanks, Save States exist.

Seems that if you want to actually play the game properly, you have to either start the game as two players, so that the second player can be used for the UP + A while paused, or just intentionally die, then do either save or retry. Note that the game will NOT save normally. you MUST use suspend points if you wish to save. Save will save the trainer state, except that continuing from that save only gives you the 3 hearts, Retry destroys the trainer state, such that when you continue the game, you are continuing as if you just started a new game.

Oh, Zelda cheaters edition. From the thread title alone I assumed at least BS Zelda no Densetsu and thought that would be pretty lame, but the actual thing is even worse. SNES games when?
