Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Why this clickbait title then? We knew that the successor is coming, and the title heavily implies that the Direct will have an announcement regarding it.

EDIT: Just found out this is from May, fuck the necrobumpers...

To me hardware specs are useless, I just care about the games that can be played.
I used to believe the same thing until I finally upgraded to a Steam Deck. Being able to play so many of the same games on the Steam Deck that used to play like complete ass on the Switch made me realize that sometimes it's worth caring about the hardware. I still can't believe Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was allowed to run like complete hot garbage on the Switch. Even Switch games run better the Steam Deck.

I will agree that there is some degree of novelty to the experience between using these systems if that's the case for multi-platform games. But the ones into Nintendo's 1st party games won't complain about the hardware for sure

The irony is that even 1st/2nd party games running through emulation are still a better experience on PC/Steam Decks.
