Nintendo files with the FCC for a SNES controller compatible with the Nintendo Switch

t0vK7B1.png

It's been a long wait, but it seems like we're getting ever so much closer to playing Super Nintendo games on the Nintendo Switch in an official format. A new update on the FCC indicates that Nintendo has filed the documentation for a wireless SNES controller, compatible with the Switch. The image on the FCC only shows the back of the controller, but it also shows the supposed model number--HAC-042--which is the naming scheme used for other official first-party Switch hardware. Next month marks a full year since Nintendo began offering their Nintendo Switch Online services, so the company could be preparing to give users a reason to re-subscribe to another year of NSO, in order to play Super Nintendo games. Previously, Nintendo released NES controllers compatible with the Nintendo Switch, which could be purchased by users that had an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.

I question the point of making a whole new controller given that the Pro Controller has a d-pad, the same layout, and everything. Sure, maybe it will make it more "authentic," in as much as playing an emulation can be argued to be "authentic."

Well you know, wouldn't be capcom without bad localization practice. That's their best quality. From breath of fire (Which was scripted by square soft originally) to Mega man battle network. You get the idea. :P

They could fix the script on the vc titles but they too lazy.

And this is just one of the many benefits of emulation: using fan translations that DESTROY Ted Woosley's efforts!

Some people like ted woolsey translations. I mean It doesn't make me any happier or excited to play the game or not, the game does. Playing chrono trigger on snes vs ds isn't debatable to me cause of how the script is, though I prefer the "not sounding like thor" script of the frog character but the quality of life changes is why I prefer the game. The names of some items being changed to be less common and more unique like Athenian water and such was also something to get used to.

Still I prefer the game with the most working, less glitches and reworked script to play with. Just like playing final fantasy 4 on gba cause you can run vs the snes. Same for breath of fire on GBA. Auto dash feature and quick save helps the pace of the game, even if it has to sacrifice the graphics and sound quality. :ninja:

Hoorra!!!! at least they will do it!!!
hopefully it won't charge extra for those. But better don't push my luck, at least there's some WORTHY games to play, and I imagine it will be online multiplayer as well, so it's gonna be wild. Mario Kart either this next month, or the other.

The pro controller doesn't have a real d-pad, no pivot and tons of false diagonals. Almost by design, as if you stick first party these Nintendo Online controllers are the only Switch wireless d-pad. (I say wireless because Switch Lite *might* have an actual pivoted d-pad, but we will have to see.)

There's nothing there about BSnes. These traces actually pointed to Canoe, the emulator used in the SNES classic.

I can’t believe it’s taking them this long for SNES titles. Nintendo really needs to make their online “service” better. 2 NES games a month with P2P WiFi is unacceptable

Honestly NES/SNES shouldve been the least important games...they shouldve started with GBA and N64 and a little later GCN. They couldve saved NES/SNES/GB for the end of the systems life.

They should have started with dedicated servers for online play and nothing else
