Nintendo Direct - March 27, 2025 - Nintendo announces Virtual Game Card feature

The Nintendo Switch 2 is just around the corner, but that isn't stopping Nintendo from revealing what they still have in store for the Switch. We're getting 30 full minutes of upcoming content for the OG Switch, so stay tuned and see what gets revealed. We'll be covering all the announcements as they happen, when the Nintendo Direct kicks off at 7am PT/3pm BST.

We begin with Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD Remake is out later this year.

No Sleep for Kaname Date is a new entry in the AI: The Somnium Files franchise. An internet idol gets trapped in an escape game, and you play as a detective trying to save her. July 25.

Atlus gets the stage next, with Devil Summoner. Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army. Improved graphics and gameplay from the original. June 19.

Shadow Labyrinth is a Metroidvania with a Pac-Man sort of familiar that guides you named Puck. The game is made by Bandai Namco. You can merge with Puck to traverse and fight. July 18.

Patapon 1 and 2 heads to Switch, July 11.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. It's a remake of the game from the DS. August 27.

Here it is, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Planet Viewros is where Samus is trapped and must explore. There's upgrades, as expected, but this time around, they're psychic abilities. Samus can move things, control the trajectory of her attacks, and open doors with these powers. It'll be out this year.

Disney Villains: Cursed Cafe has you take over an evil cafe, where you make wicked potions to help Disney bad guys. Launches today.

Witchbook is an indie game published by Chucklefish. You go to class to learn magic, hang out with friends, earn money, and use the magic spells you learn. The game has up to 4 player coop. Holiday 2025.

The Eternal Life of Goldman is a handdrawn platformer. Holiday 2025.

Gradius Origins collects some of the classic entries into this shmup franchise. Salamander 3 is coming out, a brand new game, as well.

Rift of the Necrodancer is a rhythm game. There's a Celeste DLC as well. Launches today.

Tamagotchi Plaza announced. You can make shops, run them, and upgrade them when the stores do well. June 27.

Pokemon Legends ZA is next. Wild Zones are places where Pokemon exist within the city. You're allowed to go into these areas and catch whichever Pokemon show up during the day, but they will try to attack you. That's not the only place you'll find Pokemon, though. When night falls, a big tournament begins. Battle zones are set up, where trainer battles happen. Mega Evolution is in the game, too. You'll need to go from trainer rank Z and upgrade all the way to A. Late 2025.

Rhythm Heaven is back. Rhythm Heaven: Groove, out 2026.

Nintendo is about to tell us about digital games. We see physical carts being shared easily. Nintendo is coming out with a virtual game card. You buy a digital version of a game. You get to play it, as normal. You get your own screen to view virtual game cards. Through this, you can eject a virtual game card from the first system, and play it on your second system. This system works between two Switch consoles. This allows you to lend games within your Nintendo Group Family. You can only lend 1 game, for 2 weeks, at a time. Nintendo wants digital games to be even easier to use. This will also be on the Switch 2. This update will happen in late April.

High on Life: May 6, Star Overdrive: April 10, The Wandering Village: July 17, King of Meat: 2025, Lou's Lagoon: Summer, Fantasy Life i: May 21.

HD remaster of Saga Frontier 2 is on the way. Launches today.

Monument Valley 1 and 2 are coming to the Switch. This also includes all DLC for the games. April 15. Monument Valley 3 will also be out this summer.

Everybody Golfs: Hot Shots 2. Local and online play available. Out this year.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion sees an arcade style beat em up Marvel game head to the Switch. Out Holiday 2025.

This is the final announcement of the day:

Nintendo has finally done it. After years of waiting. Fans have, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, out 2026.

Nintendo wants to offer news more directly than a Direct. They're making an app called Nintendo Today. There will be daily content for Nintendo fans. Information about the Switch 2 will come out through that app, after the Switch 2 Direct.

I popped in, and it looks like we're mid-way through. Dragon Quest, Metroid Prime 4, not looking bad.

I thought Patapon was a Sony franchise. I'll have to look into that.
yup, patapon caught me off guard. If they can do patapon for the switch, why can't they do LocoRoco too ? :)
