Nintendo confirms that its next console will have backwards compatibility with the Switch

nitennzomg.png

While leaks indicated such, and fans were hopeful, it has finally been officially confirmed: the Nintendo Switch's successor will have backwards compatibility. Nintendo Switch games will be playable on the "Switch 2"/Switch successor, and Nintendo Switch Online will also work on it as well. Of course, further details will be announced at a later date--which is still set for anytime between now and March 31, 2025.

Woowie... This totally confirms that current switch emulators can be tweeked to run Switch 2 games.... even though we still don't know the specs or even if the security for it's compenents will be any better or worse.

Wow~ something we already figured out! Thanks Nintendo! This is definitely the Switch 2 information everyone wanted! /s
To be far, I've seen quite a few people on social media and such trying to make the claim that people would have to rebuy Switch games with the next console, making claims such as 3DS/WiiU games not being compatible with the Switch (when everyone knows that 3DS/WiiU games are incompatible with the Switch purely due to different architecture and Nintendo Network not being carried over). Honestly, better to have the official confirmation of BW compatibility with Switch games now to dismiss those claims, rather than wait until the next console announcement to say anything.

Well, who didn't expect for Nintendo Switch software to not work on the successor? I feel that it's a no brainer that if it didn't work, then the successor wouldn't be successful.
Switch modders were skeptical. The issue is T239 isn't binary compatible with the Tegra X1. That alone makes it more challenging, but also how are they supposed to handle shader compilation. They'd either have to pre-compile shaders for every single switch game or hope their shader compiler is fast enough to do it on draw.

Welp when the console launch I give it 1 year max to be hacked...

Except that switch have a lot of exclusive games a thing that ps5 don't and no ps4 "remasters" doesn't count
Hos is very secure. Even if it does get hacked it'll be moreso like a ps5 situation. Hell there haven't been any software hacks for Hos in ages. The last one was in firmware version 3 or smth iirc? Modchips for the Switch 2 will probably be a thing eventually.

No not at all. T239's gpu is a black box.

If they could only confirm switch games play better on it than on switch emulators. Wait...there are no switch emulators :glare:

"Nintendo confirms they won't close the console to the 12,000 titles available, and won't depend on one or two launch titles to hold the new console afloat." Wow, what a relief. I was worried they would just launch a completely new ecosystem with no backward compatibility.
