Nintendo begins selling video content via 3DS this week with the launch of animated short The 3D Machine.
The seven minute long cartoon was previously free to watch via the 3DS video app. From this Thursday you can pay 90p (€1) to watch it again.
Arty 3DS title Colors! 3D is also released this week. It boasts an impressive array of creative tools that allows you to create layered 3D drawings. There's a trailer below.
DSiWare offering Escape Trick: Convenience Store allows gamers to puzzle their way out of a locked corner shop for £4.50/500 DSi Points.
Finally, Rush Rush Rally Racing hits the Wii Shop Channel for 900 Wii Points (about £6.30). It's a top-down 2D racer similar to the old Micro Machines games.

Frankly I think this is a dumb idea, let alone the Nintendo Video app. If it was a movie or something then I can understand, but to pay to rewatch a video is pretty stupid IMO.
I don't see an issue as such with content on demand. But with Nintendo's rigid handling of online distribution, and I mean REALLY rigid, it won't go anywhere.

Even though I think "the 3D machine" is by very far the best video that was on the video-app I don't know if that's a reasonable price...

Also what does "watch again" mean? If you pay can you stream it again once or do you download it and therefor own it permanently?

I'm going to guess that it means you can watch it again as many times as you like. (As it will probably link to your eShop account, like other games).

Also, when was this originally shown? It must have been last year as I don't remember it.

It's been there several times already... But I think the first time I watched it was around October/November.
Also, it was a really fun vid, if you can download it, 1€ isn't that much for a vid you can watch as many times as you want.

HOLY SHIT MAYBE WE CAN GET LIKE AVATAR TO GO? I'll be honest, it'd be pretty fucking sweet if we could watch 3D movies in 3D without a 3D TV or going to a movie theater, even if it is on the 3DS.

Well fuck, so much for that.

I don't see why anyone would pay basically a $1 for a 7 minute short. I can go onto Youtube and watch a 7 minute video for free. Even if it is in THREEE DEEE, I don't see the point. You can buy Angry Birds for $1 and it'll last you longer than a 7 minute short.

Well, for now it's just the 3DS vids that were released on the video app, however it could also mean (if Nintendo could be arsed to) that movies could also be purchased for it, I mean... the 3DS has a pretty small screen so even with 3D, normal vids wouldn't be over 1GB or so...

What a load of shit. This is all content that was already available for free on Nintendo Video and now they have the audacity to charge us. Screw this, I would much rather have the full 3D movies that they promised at E3.

This is stupid, they should've made it possible to download 3D videos off Nintendo Video when they were streaming.
Then you should've been able to watch them in a video player app (have it combined with the music player I guess).

This way you could watch 3D videos off Nintendo Video as well as other 3D videos such as ones online and ones from the 3DS camera.

And I don't see why anyone would pay basically $1 for a 3 minute song.

I was going somewhere with this but I forgot.

While we'd all would rather have the 3D films that they made mention before, let's be honest for a second. How many of us that say we'd rather buy the 3D films instead of this would actually go and buy them vs the same movie on DVD/BR? It isn't simply just putting the content on the 3DS, as licenses and such have to be dealt with, and that costs money. they'd have to make up that cost by selling it, which involves a minimum number of people that would purchase it. Unless enough people are willing to buy them this way, they don't see a reason to put them up in the first place.

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
