This reminds me of how Italians and other groups started off selling drugs, then eventually rose to be "respectable business men" doing "legit" business only.

    Will be fun to watch.

Derailing a thread with your terrible banter isn't a good way to make friends.

One of the microsoft peeps had a line many years ago along the lines of while they might not pay for it now then in a few years when they start to pay for it we would like them to be using our stuff. Something similar could probably be at play here, and China's wages have gone up rather in recent years so it could be they are accelerating things a bit.

Also why would they not partner with tencent? They are one of the biggest companies in China, know the market, have the tech...

That hardly makes sense but ok, you do you

Well, China is already under surveillance 24/7 so I guess it does not really matter

It's just one of the way to swat off all the noob average pirates for their good kickstart. I mean, Switch will officially be there soon, so it make sense to do that at least.

Also, Nintendo is not that dumb to think piracy can be erased lol. It's when it was rampant enough or gaining too much attractions would they want to purge those.

I think Nintendo could make an impact for sure. I've noticed some ROM sites go down by their hand, but there's always another link to follow. Someone will reupload. Piracy will never die.

Not in favor of piracy but you can't censor anything and everything on the internet. It just doesn't work.

Nintendo and Tencent will hold a press conference regarding the Switch in China this Friday.
I'm curious about their online solution. Before Nintendo introduced their pay service, people could actually play Switch games in China online.
However, it's not possible anymore because the service uses google.

This, I don't support Nintendo for this reason that I think they should not be wasting time and money on piracy and instead putting that money towards their paying customers by making their games and services even better so no one would want to pirate in the first place.

It shut down that Emu site so I think it has an effect. Not everyone can find games on torrent.

Doesn't really matter with their new social credit system. If you aren't a contributor to society 24/7, fuck you, you can't ride the trains anymore, and you don't get any discounts and aren't allowed to eat at certain restaurants!

But capitalism, free markets, and true personal liberty bad, amirite!?

If they're targeting sites specifically used for Switch piracy, and specifically localized to China, then they might actually make a significant dent. Not that it will matter with so many other general piracy sites out there, lol.

Meh they can only slow down piracy at best but no chance in hell they could stop it. Even piracy has become a business in china.
