Nintendo had already announced that the 3DS would be receiving its own Virtual Console service for Gameboy and Gameboy Color games. Newly announced at the Game Developers Conference is Game Gear and Turbo Grafx 16 games, which will also be made available on the system's VC service. Game Gear makes perfect sense considering it's an old handheld, but TG16 games are already available on Wii. Since there's a console library made available on the 3DS, perhaps we'll see other systems besides just handhelds made available for 3DS in the future? Speculation at the moment. At this time, 5 Game Gear games are reported to be in development for the system by May. No word on the TG16 titles however. The GG games have not been announced yet either. Big news regardless. Stay tuned for future information. [/p]

Sweet! I HOPE they somehow add GBA games in the future as well...

an official Mother 3 release = SEXYTASTIC.

Although that is just wishful thinking... [IMG]

That's pretty sweet. I'm glad VC isn't going to be just GB and GBC

As long as Reggie Fils-Aimes is in command of NoA, that won't happen.

I found my game gear yesterday (in the process of moving house) spent couple of hours playing sonic on it [IMG]

Would certainly buy a couple of game gear games from VC - though i would hope for some save support added for games that originally didn't have it. (e.g sonic)

Play (some/few) 8 bit games OR use an emulator to play (your choice of) much better games - not just scaled down ports of genesis titles.
The master system/game gear was good but I bet the titles available for 3ds will be crusty 8-bit sonic, crusty 8-bit sonic 2 etc. Oh yeah, and alex.

P.S. I hear that game gear vc will require 6x aa batteries and will only last for 1 hour of play?!

If we get Legend of Oasis within the first batch of Game Gear games, I will pronounce the eShop a success and toast Nintendo's thousand year reign.

I kinda guessed the Game Gear part, as there was no way it would just be a Gameboy Virtual Console. Although the Turbo Grafx-16 part is a little odd, considering it's a console and not a handheld.

Anyways, I can't wait! I hope more handhelds will be announced.

whats the point the emulation is good enough already unless they make use of turbo cds.

I was just about to mention: "It doesn't say SNES, wut?"

An SNES VC add on would generate multiple sales from me, including that of the system. I mean, seriously, I would love to play games like Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy VI in all of their lovely goodness, legitimately so there would be no hiccups from say, a shoddy emulator (cough SNEmulDS cough), and it would be incredible fun.

This isn't bad news by any means, they just need to hurry up and make the VC for the 3DS far far better.

It did actually have a decent handheld equivalent: The TurboExpress. Much better than that Sega Nomad. Not to mention that the actual game cards are about the size of normal trading cards.

I, for one, love the TG-16. This is great news. I'm hoping we see at least a few imported titles. Bomberman '94

This news seems kinda......benign to me. We can already play GB/GBC/TG16/GG, plus many other legacy systems on the regular DS (with a flashcart and an emulator), so what's the big deal? They could have put all this on the DSi.

Meh....I guess it might be interesting to the honest gamers who actually buy all their games, but to us pirates, it's like, "So what? I had all those games downloaded and fully playable years ago.....and I didn't have to buy a new system (or even pay for the games) to get them either."

At least, that's how I feel about it anyway.

True expect the dsi thing. I do not thing it could have handle those game as nearly as well on the 3DS.

Oh and the fact they got us paying for really old games. I wonder how much they cost.

While i hate to bring this up, you could make the same argument about ANY game news posted here. Including remakes, or even new games. Why would pirates want to know about ANY gaming news at all if we're just going to pirate them? Well because it's legit gaming news and covers some features of a new system. I'm sure many people will want to hear about it and want to use the service. Some of us don't pirate everything in sight, some of us do.

Is there even a decent TG-16 emulator that runs all games perfectly on the DS? If so, i'm not aware of it. I heard there was one, but that it doesn't work perfectly. Some people just like to keep official.

This is fantastic news! Hopefully Somer Assault makes it to the 3DS - I finally secured a copy, and then my friends Turbo Grafix-16 stops working :/

Though, I'm not sure that there are any Game Gear games that I really want to play that don't have better versions more readily available...
