    Hello.

I just bought my son a 2DS and have an R4i Gold from his old DSi.
I plugged the card in and the 2DS recognizes there is a game but when I click on the icon to launch it, it gives me a black screen with an error and asks to press the power button for 5 sec to turn the unit off.

I downloaded the latest wood v1.64 files and placed them on the card (the _rpg and _DS_MENU.dat files).
Am I missing something or is this card not compatible with the 2DS?

    Thanks!

is that R4i gold 3DS Card? the R4i Gold 3DS should work well on 2DS.
if so, how old is your card?
If it is very old ,please open the card and cut off the singnal line between C1 and C9

    Thanks for your response.

The one I have is not a 3DS R4i. It's older than that, like the one pictured:

Is there a way to use it with the 2DS?

That's a good backup plan but before I buy something new, at the very least I would like know if the card I have now works or not because if it does and all I'm missing is some files, then my son could be playing right now with the card he has.
Thanks for pointing to that source.

Without opening the card and cutting a point on the chip it will not work with your 2ds

OK. Is there a post somewhere showing how to perform this procedure?

It's been a long time but a good search on Google should help you

I found this video that shows the procedure. Unfortunately the video isn't very good quality, but should give you at least a general idea how to do it, on top of the advice the first commenter gave you (to cut the line between C1 and C9/R9).

Here is couple pictures from GBAtemp thread which show the signal line you need to cut: link.

I recommend getting a R4i Gold 3DS card. Since the one that you're using won't work on the 3DS (and therefore 2DS). I actually made a video guide describing what to do on a 3DS but it should work just as well on your son's 2DS.

Thanks a lot, guys. I concluded I should just buy a new card that supports the 2DS directly, since my daughter sometimes uses the DSi.
I'll take a look at dsgamerworld.

    One more question:
It is not very clear to me from reading the description of the products, but does any of the flashcarts here support playing 3DS roms on a 2DS?
Also, is any of those cards a better choice than the others?

None of those play 3DS roms. To play 3DS roms on a 3DS you need to first of all have the firmware be between 4.1-4.5 and use the Gateway 3DS. Since all 2DS's have a firmware higher than that, you won't be able to play 3DS roms on it with any cart. Sorry, but you're basically stuck with DS roms using the R4i or Supercard DStwo.

Very well, thanks for the info. May that change with future flashcarts or have the firmware updates made it such that it is now impossible to make flashcarts load 3DS games?

Unfortunately, no one knows at this point in time.

Smealum (member here) has found a working exploit in the latest 3DS OS firmware that he calls "ssspwn" and it allows you to run unsigned code on the 3DS, but his exploit apparently doesn't have kernel access, so it would only allow various homebrew applications, but no 3ds rom loading.

And Smealum also hasn't released it yet.

But I'd have to say that it's very unlikely that we'll be able to play 3DS roms on a firmware 4.5+ 3DS in the foreseeable future, if ever.

    Thanks for the help, guys.
Is there any significant difference between say, the R4i Gold Pro and R4i Gold 3DS RTS, or most flashcarts about the same, except for the Supercard DSTWO?

There are still some differences there between the r4i gold pro, r4i gold 3ds rts, they use different kernels, r4i gold 3ds can play SNES games, but r4i gold pro can not. my recommend is you can choose either the r4i gold 3ds for basic features with cheaper price or supercard dstwo for more features but more expensive!

No worries. I ended up ordering the R4i Gold 3DS, which should arrive next week.

    Thanks!
