NGP - more of a PSP successor or PS3 successor?

Do you think the NGP (or vita) is more fit to be a PSP successor or a PS3 successor?

Now, not caring about portability, do you think the NGP is more of a PSP successor or a PS3 successor?

I find it more of a PS3 successor instead...

We had to make the development environment for NGP as ‘easy’ as possible. Today, many teams are familiar with the PS3 and are used to including a variety of effects in their titles. Based on this expertise–and also the working habits they developed working on the PS3–we had to make development on the NGP as natural as possible–an extension of the PS3, if you will. So the three demos you’ve seen – Lost Planet 2, Ryu Ga Gotoku [Yakuza] and MGS4–they prove porting is simple and quick…

It appears that they care more on 'backwards compatibility' on the PS3 instead of PSP.

So, what do you think? NGP more of a PSP successor, or a PS3 successor?

NOTE:
I know sony confirmed that the NGP is indeed the PSP successor
I know that the NGP is portable
I know that NGP will have backwards compatibility with the PSP to a certain extent
No fanboy remarks + nasty comments please

Thanks

PSP successor, its replacing a handheld not the PS3. There's no PS3 backwards compatability. Developers have shown they can make PS3 ports pretty easily but they were tech demos to show what the NGP is capable of.

I don't see how the NGP could possibly be a PS3 successor.

Yes, they wanted the NGP to feel and play similarly to the PS3 especially with that whole "we can port these games easy" thing, but when it comes down to it, it's meant to succeed the PSP.

Why start it then?
Sorry, I didn't consider the fact of the game portability.

Mods close it please

Now thinking of it... It sounds like calling the 3DS a Wii successor...

Darn I'm dumb. Sorry for this noob thread

NGP has no UMD compatibility, and is it confirmed to play PSP games at all?

IIRC they provided a way to transfer umd games to the ngp.

Why would what is basically the PSP2 be counted as the successor for the PS3?
That doesn't make ANY sense.

If you didn't notice, the PS3 is a console. PSP/NGP are handhelds.

Yep, its definitely a PSP successor, not a PS3 successor, It's like saying the 3DS is a Wii successor just because it has Miis and a few other wii features.
I'll go and buy a NGP when some good games are out, even though I don't own a PSP, and never will. I would go and buy a cheap PSP GO now, as they are being discontinued, but I see no point with the NGP coming out so soon, the NGP being backwards compatible with PSP downloads, and my internet connection being really slow, like 1.5Mbps (About 180KB per second), nowhere near Dial-up, but still pretty slow.
