New Super Mario Maker 2 update adds Link as a playable character, along with the Master Sword

In an unexpected content update, Link, from The Legend of Zelda, joins in on the platforming fun in Super Mario Maker 2. More content is also on the way, including Spike, who can toss projectiles, tall Pokeys, frozen coins, which are blocks with coins inside that thaw with fire, P block, a Ninji speedrun mode, and dash blocks (exclusive to the Super Mario 3D World stages). The Master Sword will also be added as a new powerup, which will turn Mario into Link, complete with sword-swinging, shield-using, and even bomb-tossing. This new update will go live on December 5th, free to all Super Mario Maker 2 players.

My only concern is the way the master sword is used as a power-up. Presumably if you get hit as Link, you'll revert to Mario. As the characters play *completely* differently, a level designed for Link's moves would not be completable as Mario. To get around this you'd need to have master sword power-ups all over the level, which ends up taking any challenge away.

I'd much rather that when playing as link you moved over to a hearts-based health system, with the start/max amount of hearts assignable by the level creator (and subsequent mushroom power-ups changing into extra hearts)

Or git gud and don't get hurt? That's the challenge, isn't it? It wouldn't necessarily have to have no enemies/hazards lots of powerups, just one, and if you mess up, well, you're hecked and you've gotta start over.

What do I know though, I don't even have the game.

As I feared... If you get hit as link you turn back into Mario and thus are unable to complete the level if it requires and Link-specific moves. This unfortunately makes it far less useful than it could have been.

You can either create levels where it's possible to get trapped by taking a hit where there's no sword power-up, or create a level that's almost impossible to die in because the power-ups are everywhere. No in-between.

Good for (enemy free)puzzle levels but not much else.
