Last year, three states in the Northeast — New Jersey, New York and Connecticut — landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people), the population growth in the Northeast is “sluggish.”

The Northeastern exodus is particularly acute in many big cities like New York City. Since 2010, more than 1 million people have moved from the New York area — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island — to other parts of the country.

These are the three main reasons they use on the article as to why people are moving:
  • The insanely high cost
  • The horrendous weather
  • The jobs
Source: NY Post

Those reasons do make sense but another one is that people are fleeing/moving to areas they consider to be safer and more protected in the event something horrible happens. Rural areas are usually the best as they're far away from big cities.

Is this people just being hysterical and overreacting or looking out for their safety? Safety.

Good on them.

Honestly, I understand the reasons why. New England is overrated, ridiculously expensive, and the weather sucks. Also, jobs are hard to come by here (especially in teaching, from what I've heard) . Those are perfectly logical reasons to move.

Why do you think Americans moved westward in the first place? Better opportunity.

I'm actually currently living in New Jersey and I'm planning to move down to Florida as soon as I can get a job down there. It's almost entirely because of the exorbitant property prices and tax rates, but I'm also aiming to start a small organic fruit farm and the climate down there is much better for growing what I want than up here.

Seattle is consistently a freaking ride every day. Everywhere you look, you have liberals or hippies smoking weed. There's a lot of freaking weed here.
I was out on the streets inauguration day. Bad move.
I live an hour's drive away from there!

and our traffic conditions are utter shite (save me), but at least we have good coffee.

I have done Western Washington traffic. You can work around it (basically avoid rush hour/rush three hours and you can sail by with visions of sweet scenery). I have done LA traffic. Unless all your journeys are conducted at 4am you are going to suffer it, and you are going to look at the same four buildings copy and pasted for hours. By most accounts same deal for New York and not far off for Chicago.

Also is Starbucks considered good coffee like Americans consider Hersheys not only edible but worthy of being called chocolate?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
