New Legal Information from Nintendo

    Seems Nintendo doesn't like back-ups anymore, if they ever did. I'll get a scan of this from an instruction booklet in a few minutes, as proof. Seems to be only printed in new ones.

    PS: If this is old news, many apologies...

    Lol, they've had this message for a while...

    They also are refferring to devices like Gameshark, Action Replay, etc., by the way.

    They starting putting those notices in game booklets starting back around I think when Super Metroid for the SNES came out, as they had started to become aware of backup devices. They've been doing this a long time. This is mostly scare tactics, they would only ever really prosecute someone if they were selling copies. You have the full right to create "archival" and "backup" copies as much as you want. They do not need to "authorize" such things, and actually may be necessary to protect your software, if for example the cartridge fails or is flushed down the toilet or some such! When you purchase a copy of their software, you have the right to do whatever the hell you want with it for your own personal use.

    No, they must've just recently, or sometime this year, started doing this for the DS games. Because none of my 2008 release games have it in the. Eh well, just thought I'd throw it out there.

    I've read such warnings in NES/gameboy gamebooks all the time

    just kidding only queer-moes read gamebooks
