Keiji Inafune of indie developer Comcept has announced a new Kickstarter project for Mighty No. 9, a 2-D side-scrolling action game that looks to be heavily based on the Mega Man series. The pledge is for $900,000 and is aiming for the PC, with the 360/PS3/Wii U as part of the stretch goals.
  • Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!
  • You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!

I feel like he's trolling Capcom at this point, but I'm all for this.

I only hope it has a great amount of awesome content, instead of limiting itself to being a Megaman 2.5 (as 1.5 was already on the PSP :P )

Seeing the "$1,200,000 for more levels!!" makes me cringe. Especially when it's for a supposed Mega Man game.

This is why I hate kickstarters.

"Hey guys, remember when I made Megaman? I wanna do it again."

I prefer this phrase over the others we've been hearing in the last few years:

"Capcom is worse than the mafia! Look at what they've done to Megaman!"
"They've canceled MML3! fuck them!"
"These smartphones games are just quick cash-ins, this IS NOT Megaman! Fan-games don't count either!"
"This is what we get for his 25th anniversary?"

Why? It's not like making, developing art for and playtesting levels and bosses is free.
