Nintendo has updated its sales figures with the information from the latest edition of its quarterly results, bringing Nintendo Switch hardware sales to a new milestone. In the published results, we can see that Nintendo's net sales were up 9% compared to last fiscal year, leading to a total of 1.308 billion yen (12.2 million USD). Both hardware and software sales exceeded the company's predictions, as Pokemon Sword and Shield and Animal Crossing: New Horizons broke records and performed incredibly well in terms of sales. Nintendo also cited COVID-19 as a reason for limited production of hardware in certain regions, though this apparently did not drastically affect the final two months of the fiscal year. Overall, Switch console sales were up 24% year over year, selling 21.03 million units, while software sales were up 42.3%, totalling 168.72 million.

The Nintendo 3DS saw a dramatic decrease in sales, reaching only 0.69 million units--a 73% decrease. On the other hand, digital subscription sales and digital download sales were up a massive 71.8%. As of March 2020, the Nintendo Switch has sold a lifetime amount of 55.77 million systems worldwide, surpassing both the GameCube and Nintendo 64, combined.

(1) Operating results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020 For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020, Nintendo Switch Lite launched in September as a compact, lightweight, and easy-to-carry dedicated handheld system, and Nintendo Switch performed very well without losing momentum, resulting in significant sales growth for the entire Nintendo Switch family. Looking at software, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield became big hits, posting sales of 17.37 million units, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released in March, sold 11.77 million units, which is now the best start ever for a Nintendo Switch title. In addition to titles like Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Super Mario Maker 2 that were released during this fiscal year, sales also continued to grow steadily for popular titles released in previous fiscal years and for titles from other software publishers. The total number of million-seller titles during this fiscal year reached 27 titles, including those from other software publishers. Nintendo Switch also launched in China through Tencent Holdings Limited in December. Because of COVID-19, production and shipments of the Nintendo Switch console, accessories like the Joy-Con controllers, and Ring Fit Adventure faced delays in some regions from February through March, but this only had limited impact on business results for this fiscal year

the only thing missing from this console is a much better GPU.

the first time I care about that in a nintendo console
preety sure most issues on switch actualy com from that quadcore 1ghz cpu, since when you simply overclock the cpu you get much better framrates and whatnot, a simple cpu boost already does wonders, probably baries from game to game but from what i see the cpu is even the worst issue compared to gpu on switch.

then both cpu/gpu needs an uprade, might not happen.

Also forgot one problem: the home menu...

I don't think the switch will sell over 100 million copies. Maybe 80 million copies but not more than that, hopefully.

I have still never seen anyone outdoors with a Switch.

If only we weren't still in a lockdown....

Sales are good but IMO the switch is still mediocre. Hacking the switch made it alot better than it is by lifting the restrictions that it had. I hope after this Covid-19 stuff is over Nintendo start pumping out more Original games instead of relying on ports or remasters. Most of the newer games that are coming on the switch this year are ports or remasters.

I'm afraid if Nintendo doesn't bring anything new to the table in the upcoming years they are going to die out.

what? switch is getting sales because of the hybrid aspect, theres no way to make anything hybrid on ps5 power and tbh i dont see nintendo ever releaseing a regular home console ever again, the switch made them use the same studios to develop for the same platform, instead of the devided how they were.if they made a ps5 power console and sold it at like 500, it would flop hard, becuase nintendo audience inst the same as sony audience, so it would be way too risky and probably tanked big time.
plus the fact that while Microsoft sells things with b i g s p e c s and Sony pisses themselves in the corner while they figure out how they'll transparently insult and/or rip off Nintendo this time, Nintendo has always been about innovation and not just specs.
Nintendo's not looking to make a ps5-power system. They're looking to make fun stuff.

Haha!

But why did they not fix it ALREADY? Assholes.

In a perfect world, companies doing well for themselves would. Unfortunately though, as stated by Adam Smith in his book The Wealth of Nations, men and women are self-interested.

Too bad that fun stuff doesn't usually have a bunch of new games to come with it...
