more importantly, why has it taken gbatemp 6 days to write the massively awaited review? why has 5th element been real hush about this ever since he supposedly got it? OH YEA BECAUSE IF PEOPLE GIVE YOU FREE STUFF YOU DONT GIVE BAD REVIEWS. the products are garbage unless ANY "official" person gives it a good review, which you wont be seeing.

We don't get paid for doing these reviews, we don't get paid for anything on GBAtemp. It's all done for fun. So I'll write it when I feel like it and when I have the free time.

We owe nothing and don't need to butter up to anyone. If the product is bad, we give it a bad review, but that will be a fair levelled review based on hard facts.

you dont have advertising revenue? that seems to be a payment of sorts, but you are right. you dont get paid per review, and i wasnt trying to insinuate you were. i wasnt trying to attack you. i just find it funny that other reviews are done in 2-3 days, but this one is up to day 6.


the free stuff bit is true for almost any reviewer, although you guys may be different since on second look, you didnt get it from the producer itself, but from a nice site looking for publicity.

No we don't get ANY profit from the site. Zero. Nilch. It's all for fun. And we've spent hundreds of pounds on hosting and an IPB licence.

We would have gotten the X9 from the manufacturer actually. It's on it's way to us right now from them. Cheapmod just got one to us quicker.

He didn't say he didn't get paid for it. He just said he didn't make profit from it. So it would be reasonable to assume that the ads DO take in money but not enough to cover the full cost of the site. This is pretty much the way most hobby/special-interest sites go.

The ads are there as thanks to the shop that supplied as with the flash kit. But nowadays we normally get the kits straight from the manufacturer so you'll see less or no ads.

Actually, consider it a symbiotic relationship between Shaun and the companies that send him free stuff. It is well known that the website gbatemp has thousands of readers and casual onlookers. What best way for a company to get exposure than to send the Sysops a free product for them to review. In return, the reviewer mentions the companies name and provides a link to their website. This in turn translates to more web hits and a greater possibility that someone will buy something from them, which translates then to word of mouth advertising. I am sure that Shaun does receive royalties from listing the various retailers, but not that much though (And Shaun, if you are not, then you should contact them and make some arrangements...)
So basically, it's a win-win situation for both parties, more so for the company that sends the freebies. Now, since Shaun does the reviews out of his own time, we should not be complaining about the length of time it takes for him to post reviews. He is doing us a favor because I doubt that anyone else would spend X amount of dollars to buy a product that may or may not work then write a thorough review about it with pictures and video.
Lastly, I am anxious to see if this new card can unmount the DS-X as the best slot-1 device out on the market. Personally, I don't think so, but I will be looking forward to the review.

When we say we don't get paid for listing a link...we really mean we don't get paid.
Everything GBAtemp is paid by shaun and Costello themselves with the occasional donation from other GBAtemp staff members when we can spare it.

The only reason why we have those tiny ads are because we'd feel bad for getting a review kit from a store otherwise.
However, as shaun pointed out, these days we're getting review kits from manufactuers which is why there are fewer "recommended sites" ads now.

Once again, we make no profit, we don't break even. There is *no* income at all from running this place. The only benefit we get is that we get to keep the review kit they send. GBAtemp will remain a place that generates no income because, well, we hate ads as much as the next person, and this place isn't meant to be thought of as a job. GBAtemp remains standing because we like the place and the people who gather...for the most part.

These reviews are done on the reviewer's own time with no real incentive so let them review at their own pace.

my apologies then. i seen the ads on the front, and wherever i see ads, i think someone is getting paid. yes i know the reviews come from your free time, but i thought that oyu guys were getting some amount of money out of it, if even just enough to cover the costs of the website.

that said, why so long for this review when compared to other carts such as the ds-x?
