New character joining your party

I was wondering how gbatemp is at levelling in rpg's

Usually they are slightly weaker than my current party.

Depends on the game. I mean, some may force the person joining to be your level no matter what, or they'll always be higher than yours or...so on.

I'm usually a little over the level. I never run from random battles unless it's out of sheer annoyance, or very rarely, if I am about to get my ass kicked.

I usually have problems geting them to the same level more or less than my first character.
Cause im not going to kill some low level so he can keep up

I level grind using my feet while trolling GBAtemp.
In the case of Disgaea DS for example, Flonne joined in at level 5 while the rest of my party is in their 40s.

If the game allows a party member that joins in to be stronger than you, they usually are. By far. I tend not to grind at all unless I really need too, I even tend to run from 20% or so of all random battles.

In a game like Disgaea, though, it's all GRINDGRINDGRIND.

I usually overlevel my party. I love to have things simple, or you could probably say I'm not much of a tactician. Anyway usually they are way weaker than my party.

hell, you got a level cap of 9999 for that game.


btw, i'm almost done with the psp-version.
everyone is past the 100's but flonne is still lvl 9
she sucks

in fact, most story characters do

also, in disgaea its fun to grind. most of the attacks are awesome and never get old

I meant before I even got her. On PS2, I think I hit 3 digits before even meeting Mid-boss.
EDIT: Another example would be me grinding for almost a week on Gato before progress through Chrono Trigger. I think I hit level ~13 killing Gato then eating that food outside on a stall.

really weak. like in pokemon when i catch a new pokemon at about lv 40, my team would be around lv 70

before they join my party, they look all strong. once they join, it seems like they can barely make a scratch on the enemy.

They're usually a LOT weaker since I have the imperative of not running away from a single battle.
If I do that by accident, I prefer reloading the savegame

The games I'm playing right now start off new members off at level 1. I'd have to say I'm usually better than that.

in ff 4, edge joins me at around 30s, my party = 45+

Phantasy Star Portable, hmm... I hate how you only level yourself, and during missions when they rejoin my party they are about 2 or 3 levels above me, but now I don't play because I'm mad about having to beat that bastardly flying thing in that rock place...again... :-P

Depends on the game. Some times my main people are far underpowered compaired to those who join me and some times im way over powered to them.
