Yup, a new Call of Duty has bee confirmed. Looks like they want to milk this cash cow dry.

Today, Activision Blizzard issued a better-than-expected earnings report in which it announced a $51 million quarterly profit. In a conference call with analysts afterward, executives revealed further details on the publisher's future plans.

Call of Duty will see a new installment in the second half of 2011.

One detail that was revealed was that the Call of Duty series will once again have a fresh first-person installment late next year. "We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. This sentiment was later echoed by Activision COO Thomas Tippl, who said that "Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter."

The executives did not name the game or which studio was developing it. A likely suspect is Modern Warfare 3, which court documents identified as being in development at Infinity Ward as of May. That same month, Activision said the studio, which had lost over 35 members following the firing of its founders in March, continued to work on its "next big project."

A second Call of Duty is also in the works from newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games. Though Activision has said this title would take the Call of Duty series into the action adventure genre, a May job listing indicated it would also be a first-person shooter. Activision has not said when the Sledgehammer title will be released, but said it was not the unnamed COD project slated for next year--presumably Modern Warfare 3.[/p]

Black Ops lived up to most peoples' expectations pretty well, including mine, so I think it will be nice to see what IW/Whatever company will do after Black Ops' success.

It's just that it hasn't even been a year and they already announce a new one. I wonder how they're gonna "top" Black Ops.

I personally find FPSs in general boring. I'm an RPG kinda guy.

But I don't really see the point in arguing about CoD anymore. But what is this the 7th or 8th one?

I don't buy these games any more, so no reason for me to dislike this announcement.
I actually look forward to downloading it, completing it and waiting for some kind of cracked online multiplayer to appear [IMG]

This just annoys me. They really are ruining the industry with their crappy games that other devs look to and copy because of their success.

hmp again a call of duty TUT. I hate real FPS(you know it looks like its real.) Its not my cup of tea you know.

People think this is MORE hardcore then a good Zelda or Mario game, they prefer Blacks above everything. They need to STFU with COD, since I lost friends with that game. They played it to much, lost contact etc etc. Halo is even BETTER! Sjeez peeps

Still Ill go and try it for once. Like I did with COD BO.

We'll bitch about it, we will still buy it, we will still play on-line for days, and then we will bitch about it some more.

...and then you'll carry on with your pre-firing, not realising that no one else does it.

    That was fast.

I personally don't understand why this genre and series have grown so popular, and agree that Activision and Call of Duty are destroying the gaming industry and putting a nail in the coffin of creative design.

Luke thinks that "pros" fire before they go around a corner so then you're ready is there is someone there. He just doesn't realise that this encourages you to be found as he doesn't use a suppressor.

Meh, I'll see what the reviews of this are when it comes out.
And ignore them, as they seemed to love the CoD4 to BO, and yet...I disliked all of them...

Well I've played tons of FPS' online and never heard of such a thing.
I watch the radar more then the actual game, so if you would shoot around a corner near me, I would spot you on the radar and I'll be more focused and fast to react. I'll expect an enemy, I know the enemy is just behind the corner, you'll hope there's an enemy and before you would properly aim at me, you would already be dead.

He might reply in a minute and give us more insight into his thinking, lol.

@Tundra: There was a news article the other week where Activision commented that they were happy with the Infinity Ward resutructure, so Activision have been doing something with them.
