So, you mix the master of zombie films, Machete, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Freddy Kreuger, and Merle from the Walking Dead and what do you get? The most FUCKING AWESOME ZOMBIE MODE KNOWN TO MANKIND.

The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 'Escalation' DLC will feature a new mode called (and why hasn't this been used before?) 'Call of the Dead.' That much we knew, but now we have a trailer which reveals that - wait, what? - Danny Trejo? Sarah Michelle Gellar? Robert "Freddy Kreuger" Englund? Michael Rooker (Merle in AMC's The Walking Dead)? George Romero?! How many non-questions can we ask?! How you do this, Treyarch?

"This is Treyarch's tribute to the legendary George Romero, who truly defined the zombie genre and whose incredible work has been such an inspiration to our team." said Black Ops director Dave Anthony. "It was an absolute honor to work with such an amazing and talented cast whose passion and energy brought their characters instantly to life. Fans are going to love this."

While the Romero throwback zombie theme isn't new, it's hard to get enough of, and wow - this isn't at all what we were expecting. We expected a new mode, perhaps with different rules, and in that respect, it's a bit disappointing that Call of the Dead is a single map. Still, it's far from an ordinary map, so consider our previous expectations moot.

So, horror fans, is this an awesome service to you, or is Activision trying too hard?

Black Ops just became a must-buy game. I don't give a shit about the multiplayer or single player, Presidents vs. Zombies and the most godly zombie mode ever just made me cream my pants.

I'm not a huge fan of Call of Duty or first person shooters in general, but this has piqued my interest.

Once again they move right on past the PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. *sigh* It could have been it's own downloadable title.

Ehh...The Zombie map looks amazing like usual, but I'd only be buying the map pack for it like the first strike map pack. The multiplayer on Black Ops is horrible, so the maps serve no purpose to me.

I'm pretty sure this is coming to XBLA/PSN (well, once the PSN is back up).

Mind you it's only one map so I wouldn't say it's enough for it's own "downloadable title" but it's still awesome. I'd say it definitely makes the game worth buying (alongside the regular zombies mode and Presidents vs. Zombies).

    Holy shit. This looks amazing.

But... If only Black Ops wasn't as boring as it is now...

i liked everything , but i liked the old characters and such ... i feel this is more of a side story to the zombies maybe

yes there is a story to zombies

seriously treyarch should just be into zombies, make a standalone game for it

As much as I don't care for CoD or Activision, this really looks all sorts of awesome.

Wasn't Black Ops just a $60 DLC for MW2 in disc form anyway?
    How can DLC have DLC?

It's Call of Duty, it can do that.
Or if you don't like that:
It's Mainstream, it can do that.

I mean, you've gotta remember, MW2 was DLC for World at War, which was DLC for MW.

But they both milked the franchise.

being the CoD player i am, i must agree, and yes their DLC is over priced

but i've never spent more than 5 $of any of their DLC / account sharing ( and ive bought the DLC for mw2 and black ops so far so that 15$ in total)

and i have had hours of fun from this game

but no doubt, Homefront, Battlefield and recently Crysis 2 have done some serious dent in the FPS multi player industry, they have milked it forgetting about the others out there, so unless i i don't find something revolutionary (like cod4) in the next inevitable CoD i am retiring on the series.

anyway thread is more about the zombies, which im more or less hyped for ... i wish Treyarch would just make a zombie map pack or something ... jeeez :/

They may be a different between studios, but the games are the same with different skins and dialog.
Fallout: New Vegas was the same deal.

How can people even think about doing things like that when Rockstar released 2 DLC packages for GTA IV while providing new content and actually making them downloadable add-ons rather than new games?

Definitely justifies the $15 price tag. Zombies provides countless hours of entertainment. It's a shame though, looks like the backstory of zombies is going to take a breather unless they really pull something special off. The opening cutscene better explain why George Romero is the "boss" zombie, or else it just won't make fucking sense.

    hmm . . .
feels like Zombies is selling more than the actual game / multiplayer .

if only it became an actual arcade game . . .
