As described in the title, that is my current issue. I'll power it on, you can hear the theme music play, but the screens don't turn on.

The system itself isn't hacked an anyway. I have removed the battery, MicroSD and the 3DS game from the system over and over with no changes.

I have on occasion had it turn back on after letting the battery completely die and then charging it again. Tried that again to no avail.

Sadly I've sent this same system in for repairs like 2 or 3 times, was just curious if there was any other options people have figured out?

Please try if the screens turn on in recovery mode. In case this works, you should disconnect the cameras for testing purposes.

Defective camera module is known to cause this weird behavior on N3DSXL. No, this doesn't make any sense. DS consoles behave erratically when some hardware doesn't respond properly instead of giving some meaningful output.

Good luck and have fun!

A video for what?
N3DSXL are known to do this nonsense when the camera module is bad.

If it is the known problem and you don't want to do hardware repair (at the moment), consider installing B9S/Luma3DS (with ntrboot).
You can also try disconnecting the camera. Your console should work again – minus the camera functions of course.

  • Rosalina is now supported on N3DS SAFE_FIRM, including the homebrew launching functionality that comes with it:
    • This is controlled by a new option in the main Luma menu. That option also enables running 11.3-and-below system versions on N2DS and also allows the system to run even with defective head-tracking hardware
    • The newest release of the Homebrew Menu needs to be used (it comes bundled with Luma3DS in this release archive). You also need to rebuild all your homebrew with the latest libctru release. Some homebrew may not work, nevertheless
    • Some Rosalina features may not work properly there (e.g. the brightness and New 3DS submenus)
[…]

Again: Good luck!

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
