Hey guys,

I wanted to think of a few things we can do to make sure the new 3DS XL that allows maximum usability without risking losing the potential for Gateway until it arrives. For that I have a few questions:

1 - My firmware version is 9.0. I want to make sure it stays that way. How can I make sure it never tries to update, aside from never setting up wifi?

2 - Say I want to play online with a normal game I have, can I go online in gaming without updating to the latest firmware? I know eShop needs latest update, but do games do as well

3 - What if I want to use spotpass? How can I use spotpass without worrying about an update downloading?

Maybe we can compile a suggestions list so that we avoid any unforeseen mistakes, and threads complaining about how they updated or bricked their device!

I think when I pick my NewN3DSXL up this weekend I'm going to open a new thread and ask the exact same questions, not because I really want to know... don't tell anyone else but tbh I do know already but I could find out quite easily without the need of starting a new thread, like this one! but no, its not that at all, that's not the point, its just the fact I want to let everyone know I have got a New Nintendo 3DS XL.

1- use this https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-psvproxy-net-proxy-dns-blocker-3ds-update.377880/, dont put cartridges that are over 9.0+ (which are none), and dont let it sleep with spotpass unless you blocked it

2- as long is there isnt a eshop update, you are fine to go online for example animal crossing

3- use this and make a fake homepass connecting the dns https://gbatemp.net/threads/blocking-the-3ds-from-receiving-the-wifi-update-using-opendns.375643/

There has been a new development. New Smash carts have 9.2

My stupid friend updated his New 3DS XL that he JUST GOT and planned to use with gateway. All because he wanted to play Smash Bros online. Shame shame
I'd say just dont connect to the internet with it at all. Offline gaming is cool too.

To be honest this is sounding like the safest strategy. Too much risk otherwise, even with the DNS suggestions.

Doesn't it ask at least once, if not twice, if you want to apply the update? Is there any situation that a 3DS/N3DS will automatically apply a firmware update with confirmation?

I like the L angle connectors which add more force to it I guess which defeats the point

i only buy new ones when theres a new standard and I have gear that uses it. Otherwise my cables seem to last forever.

I like electronics that use detachable cables, that way if the cable breaks you can just swap in a new one instead of replacing the whole unit

the L hdmi adapters work great on my tv and receiver. so much less stress on the ports using them than regular cables. in that instance anyway.

i dont know why tv manufactures put the hdmi ports in dumb locations so the cables have to stick out, and then down, putting stran on the ports. Instead of having the porrs along the bottom edge of the tv facing downwards.
