New 3DS Patent Covers Vibrating Stylus, New Control Methods

Above is the patent that Nintendo has recently filed, which shows new ways of interfacing with the 3DS and ...Cats.

This includes a method of playing games on the system without having to actually touch the console at all, by manipulating the front facing camera to detect a marker (which can be fixed to the end of the stylus) and calculate where it is pointing to on either of the screens. This can be used to move objects around on the screen without needing to press a button. The patent also details a vibrating stylus for when you interact with these virtual items on the screen.

The aforementioned marker doesn't have to be fixed to a stylus either, which means that you will be able to control the 3DS with your finger or whatever else you can fit the marker onto.

It's a interesting concept, the image pops out in 3D and when this new stylus "touches" the object, it will vibrate and you'll feel like really touching the object.

If they're thinking of making a rumble stylus, it'll have to have an internal, preferably rechargeable, battery. Here's to hoping its one of those tiny watch batteries rather than a bulky AAA or, god forbid, a AA.

It's interesting and would be cool if it works, but sadly I can't see the 3D effect so I will pass on it.

Oh... Too bad I've done stuff in school that surpasses this by far. I mean, used equipment and programmed demos and stuff for haptic feedback systems. And they're in the $30,000 $60,000 price range IIRC, however, those feel really real. And having used such equipment, this will be a let down by comparison obviously.
However, I still like the idea and wouldn't mind buying it. Just meant that nothing can live up to the haptic equipment at my school
