Completely new to this don't have a clue. Please help. Brought 3ds for my son and was going to buy a r4 card to download rom and save some money but found out 3ds game won't work. What is the best and easiest way to play 3ds roms. Also cheapest. Help is appreciated.
I want to download 3ds roms and play them via sd card. How do I do and where do I start. Not modded yet so starting from fresh. Which cfw is best to play 3ds roms. Won't be doing much else with it. As for my 6 year old son.
There are flashcards for 3DS ROMs, but these are expensive and not worth the money (because they can do less than free custom firmware).
If you do not already own some kind of ntrboot compatible flashcard and your firmware is >=11.4 update to 11.8 and use frogminer.

You don't need flashcards for anything anymore, just make sure you have a big enough SD card to store the games you want to play. And Luma is the most user-friendly and less possible to screw up, so great for just simple usage.

The guide for FrogMiner takes you all the way from the start all the way to the end, so no need for homebrew. Even if you had homebrew on 11.6, it wouldn't change a thing really, so just follow the guide, that's all.

Read the instructions on that page I linked to. You have to complete the SteelMiner guide first then you do the FrogMiner one, simple. That file is ran when you have homebrew with all the requirements done.

Start the game once and select a Mii to initialize the save. Do not update the game when asked
If you already updated the game, delete the Update Data in the System Settings

System update it okay and needed (without you couldn't have downloaded Steel Diver). You must not update the game (or you have to delete the update if you did).
To clarify, this is what you have to do:
- Steelminer→ Gives you access to the Homebrew Menu
- Frogminer→ Launch Frogtool from the Homebrew Menu to install B9S.
- Finalizing setup → Setup some essential software.
- Install games in *.cia format and/or emulators for retro consoles.
- If you're also interested in playing nds-ROMs without a flashcard give TWiLight Menu++ a try. (Note: Not all games are compatible and newer ROMs may need to be patched because of anti-piracy measures.)
