MystikEkoez, that "til the year 9999" ban was to someone who managed to hack/whatever their way into the Halo 3 "Friends and Family" test. Not just for playing it early. I was playing it nearly an entire month early and I was fine. Hell I even played with a game site reviewer, and he used screens from our match for his review.

Figures though. I'd use this if I wasen't just about to get my Live activated again. I can wait a few more weeks.

I installed it. Just unplug the network cable and wait for the 19th the role around. If it's the final dashboard it should work online from then on. If not, just download the latest update from microsoft's website and install it before you go online.

I have a Silver live account anywho.

I'm not playing online at the mo anyway, too many 'story' modes to complete...

How did you do it?

I've never needed to do such a thing. Not that I want the new dashboard...just wondering how.

Burn it or use a flash drive.

yeah, just extract the content at the root of an usb flash drive, or a CD rom or anything that can be read by the 360.
boot your console and it'll tell you theres an update available. It takes about 30 seconds and then the console reboots, and thats it.

now that I've installed it, I can safely say that I could have lived without it for just a couple more weeks.
If your console isn't banned (mine is) and you enjoy xbox live, I think it's safer to wait till the 19th.
and how did it get leaked? I don't know, I found it in an article on a famous french site (jeux-france.com) and they said it was legally allowed.
If it was illegal I wouldn't have posted it, of course.

As far as where it's come from, I was told this:

QUOTE said:
There was a Preview Program opened a day or two back so Microsoft could check the new Dashboard out in the wild as it were, with a combination of ISPs and hardware. This download has come from someone who has taken it off of their hard drive.

So it sounds like someone got the update in the preview program, then used a program like xploder360 to rip the update off the hard drive for everyone to install.

Also stop calling this a beta install, its -not- beta. It's the full version of the firmware itself, extras like the avatars are something else.

I'm amazed the lengths people would go for a different looking dashboard that pretty much has all the same features (said the person working on an edge screen for a few hours).

I wouldn't call it the same features. Installing to the hard drive is something thats pretty drastically different. The menu layout is also smoother and faster than the clunky old design.
