Hi all!

I know this issue was posted several times on this forum but after having tried many things I still don't know how to fix it.

Here's what happened:

- my N2DSXL was running a cfw.
- I was playing on Twilight menu++, then I wanted to go eating so I just closed the console so that it would enter into sleep mode.
- when I opened it up later, it was looping over a "click sound" quite quickly, and the screens did not bring the image back, I had to force shutdown by holding the power button.
- I tried to power it up again, no image appeared on the screens, only the blue led stayed on.

I was stuck in this case, so I started looking for answers here and there.
I've seen some posts in this forum about it.

So I tried :
- placing the latest Luma3DS at the root of the SD card. -> since then, the blue led flashes for barely 1 second then turns off.
- the recovery mode button combo. -> same result.
- partially dismounted the console : unplug the battery and plug it again and remounted the console.
- I verified the SD card with H2testw -> card is OK.

Charging to 100% + recovery mode -> if I wait an undetermined amount of minutes, I have like 10% chance that the screens light up (black screens), and on the bottom screen I can see some text appear very quickly (1sec) and then the console turns off.

I managed to record this one second of text

I also tried the CFW starter kit, the text displayed on screen differs, but still goes away one second after.

My guess is that it does boot, but why does it turn off next, I don't know.
What can I do next?
Any help is appreciated :)
Thanks!

Take out the cartridge and SD card. Plug it in and turn it on. Let it sit there like that for 10 to 20 minutes.

The "clicking sound" might also indicate there's a problem with the backlight connection if it keeps happening.

Hi, and thanks for your replies!
Please try starting without SD and remove any game from cart slot.
I did, and same behaviour: blue led turns on for a second then turns off.

It doesn't stay on unfortunately, so I cannot leave it sit like that.
Also the clicking sound does not occur while the text appears.

Try to turn it on with the lid only slightly open. Sometimes this is caused by stress on the screen ribbon leading to eventual fracture and it might let you turn it on with the lid at certain angles but not fully open which would confirm that theory.

Was there something you did where the screens stayed black but the power light did stay on?

At first it was doing this, but when I changed luma boot.firm on the SD it became "blue led turns off after 1sec"

I did not find yet an angle that allowed me to boot, I'll keep trying but when I dismounted the console the ribbon looked fine to me.

I forgot that I had taken a picture of the console opened btw, here it is:

There are other ribbon cables that would also cause the same issue if they are damaged or not properly seated, but that's not likely to happen from normal use. It does seem like a ribbon cable issue though. If it was a simple software issue you shouldn't be seeing the Luma3DS config screen at all.

Have you tried booting to the Luma3DS options or GodMode9 just to see if the screens and such are working?

Yes, it does the same, only blue led turns on for 1sec.

If this is the ribbon, how can I check it, let's say if I dismount the console again?

Is this possible to replace it?

The ribbon connecting the two halves of the console is a pain in the *ss to seat properly, I could try again I guess.

Fractures are hard to spot without a microscope.
You can't replace the ribbon cable without replacing the upper screen.

Hey there, I come back after few tries:

Indeed depending on the angle I was able to get through a "led staying on" state, and sometimes I was even able to boot on pressing X while power pressed.

So I let the console powered on for an hour or so with the led on and two black screens (I could see luminosity on them though!), but nothing changed afterwards.

So I reopened the console and slightly moved the ribbon in the middle linking both screens, I closed it and then depending on the angle I could boot on B9S for example, but never the "official" menu.

So I guess it is indeed the ribbon which must have been hurt in a way or another when I closed the 2ds the last time I played it.

At least it isn't software bricked and I'll be able to play it again once the ribbon fixed.

Any references of what kind of ribbon should I order ? Please feel free to pm me if you know any.

Thanks again for your help guys!

Hi, I'm here to post for whoever would read this in the future. In the end I sent my console to a repair shop and they changed the ribbon and upper screen, now it works like a charm.

Good luck if you've read until here!

@ShantaeFan123, I think Switch2 gonna use same OS, so switch1 games will be native played, not emulation. Basically just a beefed up Switch1. But I think the Switch2 games gonna be more secure/ extra copy protections and the motherboard on Switch2 redesigned so modchips harder (hidden connection points)
