Today marks the first day that retro gaming fans will be able to get ahold of a new collection of classic NeoGeo games on the Nintendo Switch. Publisher SNK has released a new compilation for the console, NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 1. The title combines six classic NeoGeo handheld games already available individually on the Nintendo eShop with four new titles. The games in the collection include:

Titles that support multiplayer and co-op play will offer the feature in the new release. The collection runs $39.99, and is available now on the Nintendo eShop. Titles available individually remain so, and cost $7.99 each. There's no word as of now if the newly added titles will also be available for individual purchase in the future.

Is this gonna be a physical release? Also, how long until we see a Neo Turf Masters port, SNK?!

There goes my hope for the first re-release of Sonic Pocket Adventure. Maybe in a future volume if an agreement is made with Sega.

Nice, I was hoping we'd get something like this soon. $40 is a bit on the pricey side though, I'll probably wait on a sale.

They should add the portable Evolution game on the next pack.

It's a bit much, so I'll be watching for hopefully half off someday. A physical release is likely to make me consider it a bit more though. I managed to get the SNK 40th Collection cart for like $20, but that was more of a luck thing, seeing it at Best Buy on clearance. I don't remember much of a prolonged, widespread discount period and now it's out of print. It wasn't a very desirable collection other than Crystalis anyway and here they give us another very niche SNK collection. It would be nice to get one packed with the NeoGeo arcade games. The way they're sold separately now, I'd rather just keep emulating them.

I always wondered who had the obscure handhelds. Who bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color, or WonderSwan, or Game.Com, or Gizmondo, or N Gage.

Small shame no one, outside of bootlegs and emulation machines, try to make proper dedicated portable gaming systems to compete with Nintendo anymore.

Yeah, but how many people have hacked Switch to use RetroArch?

Hmm I will agree with you there normally I would go with my Galaxy S10 or my PS Vita if I want to play emulators but the option is there on the switch. $40 is kinda steep for the collection it should have been like $10. The only thing the PS Vita have over the Switch is the emulation part where you can use adrenaline because the standalone emulators give you a better performance than retroarch.

I think PS Vita is the ultimate handheld due to it's sleek portability. The Switch is the best handheld however it's kinda a drag to carry and the emulation is kinda sluggish on retro arch

Honestly Nintendo held the reigns of the best handhelds. I liked Sony too but Nintendo did a better job and captured a better market. The PS Vita would have been great if Sony payed more attention to it.

No worries, I wasn't sure if you were referring to RetroArch in general or on the Switch, I agree the price they charge is not so good.

The particularity of this release is the one screen multiplayer support, I don't think there is a way to do it properly on Windows/retroarch actually.

I'm honestly a little surprised we haven't gotten some Sonic handheld collection with this and few of the Advance, Rush, etc games on it.

That said I'll probably snag this soon, even if I am starting to feel a little thin in the wallet with all the Switch retro comps lately (looking at you, Capcom Arcade thing that also costs $40). If I didn't have a NGPC flash cart I'd be in a much bigger hurry, but I admit this is still the more convenient option.
