Hey guys, looking for some pointers. I haven't touched my N3DS since late April or so, and I'm currently using ReiNAND on 10.5.0.30u.

What's the hot new thing for N3DS CFW and what's the most direct path for me to get there from where I'm at? The scene is always evolving and I'm sure I missed some important developments since the last time I used my system, and now with the impending release of MH Generations and today's Rhythm Heaven, I'm ready to play again but need to get up to speed.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

luma3ds is a much improved fork of reinand and you should switch to that.

Several people here will advise you to switch to a9lh (perm cfw - you've likely heard of it already), but it's a lot of trouble to set up if your goal is just to play games.

So nothing has really changed? Slap this into my SD and then I can just do the system update to...10.7?, like normal?
The current firmware is 11.0 now, but yeah, you should be able to update your emunand with the newest reinand or luma3ds.

Doubtful. What's the point of it?

It's a CFW that launches on boot and goes straight to the homemenu rather than launching Menuhax and then launching the CFW. It's practically just as fast as booting the 3ds stock. It also will forever let you update an is practically unpatchable once installed. It also lets you unbrick your sysNand without a hardmod. Follow plailects guide if you want to install it: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

Just for the sake of accuracy, arm9loaderhax is NOT a custom firmware itself. It is a system exploit that makes possible running code directly at boot. The code that will be ran could be one of a custom firmware (like Luma's arm9loaderhax.bin) or some other utility (a boot manager, Bootanim9, Decrypt9, etc.).

I know this may sound silly, but having even a slight understanding of how the hacked console works can save some headaches or problems later.

To make things more confusing. While A9LH on it's own isn't a CFW we can use stuff like an alt stage2, like KGB (made by wolfvak) to have a CFW that doesn't need the SD Card.

Link: https://reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comme...lh_stage2_that_can_boot_without_an_sd/d49he5l

ShadowNAND will also be another CFW that will work in the same fashion as KGB.

Both projects are WIP.
