So out of the blue I'm thinking of getting a Switch for the first time, but which one?
I heard V2 is easier to mod, but I want to get the OLED one since the chip works on it too.
If I get the OLED, I'm worried that the install chip install will fail and V2 will eventually become impossible to find like V1.

I'm completely new to Nintendo community, I'll have to learn about the jailbreaking stuff after I get the system and chipped.

For the Oled version you need a modchip which are expensive and need to be installed by a professional.
With the modchips for the Switch, there is no such thing as easier modding.
You need a microscope and special soldering gear because it requires very fine soldering.
The modchip will set you back another $200 USD at least on top of the purchase of an OLED switch.
If you're not going for a modchip, make sure to check the serial of the old Switch before purchasing it.
At some point Nintendo fixed the open door in their security model preventing you from doing homebrew stuff without a real modchip.

no loll , v1 is easiest to homebrew (no need for modchip ) , just get a unpatched switch , transfer over cfw files , and off you go

Only if we're talking about a modchip then the V2 is easier to mod than the OLED.
V1 requires no modchip.

The modchips are hell expensive and sometimes hard to find right now. And the OLED modding is extremely difficult for an average joe without soldering expertise or equipment.

Best option for a total noob? Get a V1 switch.

I'm confused, do you mean get a used v1 and transfer over cfw files to the OLED to jailbreak that? Will that work?
No, that's not possible. The only option to mod an OLED switch is with a modchip (or its clone, since the original is almost impossible to find now) designed for the V2 switch, which requires a lot of soldering expertise.
I see a possible near future where these clones are adapted to the OLED so it becomes a little easier to install, but we're not there yet.

no i mean just a get a used v1 , check serial number of the switch to see if its unpatched , and your good to go ,, if your planning to get a oled version , your gona have to get a mod chip installed for that , tricky , and theres not much difference apart from , cost of installation and obviously the oled screen

Hmmm, what worried me before about v1 was the battery life and joy-con drift. Does the OLED version still have that?

Battery life isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but I suppose your experience may vary on that. And drift is on just about every joycon after so much use, no matter the version.

V1 = Easiest to mod and only thing required being a rcm jig (But that is optional if you want to use a wire to short two pins which is riskier)

V2 = Harder to mod as it requires a mod chip

OLED = Hardest to mod as it uses the V2 mod chips which aren't designed around the OLED's board so requires some good experience in soldering

Yeah, it also doesn't help that the joycons are ridiculously expensive.

Alright, now I'm really torn. Thanks guys.
I'll need to really think about this once I'm either silver or go off the meds for a little.
