Hacking Need info on trimming DS Roms. Please help.

my dad ordered a "ds xtreme" ( http://ds-x.com ) for me for christmas. it should be arriving any day now.

i recently downloaded some roms off of the internet, and was surprised as to how big the games were. final fantasy 3 was well over 100 MB!

as the dsx only has appx. 512 MB of flash memory, i'm gonna need to trim my roms. get them to a smaller size.

here's the question: how do i do it?

one of the reasons i wanted the dsx so badly was because of the drag and drop simplicity of it. no programs to patch and manage roms and such.

running off of a windows 98 computer right now, i am unable to run programs such as those of the G6 lite.

anyway.....

what are good trimming programs that will run on windows 98 computers, and leave the roms good for the dsx?

any help is gladly appreciated!!

There're very few roms which are 128 Mb. Anyway, I have over 10 games on my DS-X (including FF3). They're not trimmed. Trimming ruins the advantage of playing clean roms. I just want to transfer roms via USB and play and I don't want any hassle like patching/trimming. That's what DS-X is for.

you make a good point, EX, but may i ask, just what IS the advantage of running non-trimmed roms?

The advantage of not trimming them is obviously time saving. Why buy a cart that runs clean roms if you still gonna mess with them? Buy a G6 or smth instead.

there is a time saving part of it,
but it'd be nice to be able to fit more roms on the dsx by getting rid of dummy data. that's all.

also, where can i get mscoree.dll ?
i tried running the program and it said i needed it.

you need Microsoft .net to run it, which includes the dll. Or google is your friend.

If you are such a size whore, then get yourself SCDS, R4 or some other kind of that shit + 2Gb micro SD and enjoy all your 50 or more games AT ONCE. I'm OK with playing just 1-2 games. Some people play their games till the end, you know. Anyway you don't even need to take DS-X out of DS, just plug the cable in. Or is trimming roms much better? I don't fucking care though.

anyhoo, now that i think of it, ex is right. trimming roms is too much of a hassle now that i think of it, and i can always add and subtract roms whenever i wish to.
