Hacking Need help with the install on a psp 1001 to 6.1

My son just got a psp 1001 it has the ofw 6.20 installed on it tried to set it up for him had to download the otw 6.61 and everytime i try to intall the update it goes to the white psp screen for a few secs then shuts off and doesnt install it. I dont know what to do tried to research and cant seem to find anything about it so im trying here hopefully itll help lol
